Still no luck finding work?.....
Right now -- it seems that the flatbed world is a bit hungrier for drivers.
A flatbed skillset would really jazz up your trucking job experience.....& much enhance your appeal to later potential carriers.
Also, with flatbed -- you would see more of your family, in most cases (i.e., home most weekends).
Thus, submit COMPLETED APPLICATIONS to the following BEFORE calling them. Follow up your application about 5 days later with a call, & ask about its status:
- Cypress Truck Lines/Sunbelt Carriers
- Maverick Transportation
- Decker Truck Lines
- Melton Truck Lines
- TMC
All the above are carriers with generally good reputations; they also normally hire brand new CDL holders -- so they can also be forgiving of your lack of recent experience, as well.
Note that all this will likely be a tough hunt, because the overall CDL job market is slow currently. It's really dicey out there right now.
On any/all applications/interview questions: DO NOT volunteer any info that is NOT SPECIFICALLY requested.
For example: the answer to "Have you had a DUI/traffic violation in the last 5 years?"....is/would be VERY different from "Have you EVER had a DUI/traffic violation?"

I have some companies that will hire but I have to take a refresher course. Now finding a school now is the tough part. The schools so far does not accept my military benefits and they also do not do payment plans. No way I can form out $2500-$3000 at the moment. I’m still searching though.

Might have to swallow your pride and join CR England.......

What part of NC if I was you look for O/Os in your area or small trucking companies. I would rather do that than go in debt for a refresher which sounds like just going to school again then taking a job with one of the mega companies with all the other newbie’s look around for dump truck hopper bottom construction companies usually small companies that are owned by one person. I really believe if you keep looking you’ll walk in the right door at the right time and not have to pay for something you already know how to do.I would rather take a yard jockey job and do till they we’re tired of looking at me and let me start driving

Been on the phone a lot lately with truck companies. I found a company that will hire me. I had a license in a different state so once that check comes back I should be good to go as I know it’s nthn to worry about. Reason for OTR is because there is a local company near me that pays well above normal pay. I just need 1 year of OTR for them to hire me. That is why I been pushing for it. Thanks for all of the positive input that some of you gave. I really appreciate it. Will post another update once I hear back from this company tomorrow

What about Swift? Schneider?

Congrats, I hope you were got it. Im invested in your story, and I’m in a similar situation and I wanted to pick your brain. Not as much time has passed since my DUI. It’s unfortunate how It went down but I can’t change the past right. So it’s been 2.5 years and I still have my SR22. I paid a place hourly that allowed me to drive around in a truck then went third party skills testing, passed and now have my CDL AND MED certificate. I think I’m going to have to start out dump trucks or local. I’m just curious who hired or what their rules are so I know if I should even attempt to try applying for these OTR/dedicated companies.

Does that meet the ELDT requirements?

I was exempt according to the MVD. I either got my cdl (the first time) in 2020 right before they required it, OR when I stopped driving, may 22’, maybe I was still within a time frame. Like if I would have waited any longer to go get my CDL this year, I would have had to retake ELDTJamie01 Thanks this.
