Enlighten me. Other than some misplaced convenience to FMCSA, why would you need to join a "consortium?

A single driver company can not meet the legal requirements of a random selection. There is a minimum number of your drivers that must be tested each month, which when you join a consortium you are placed in a pool of drivers, spreading out the tests over many different companies. It would be a conflict of interest to set the time and date of your test, too easy to run dirty and then clean up before submitting the sample.

Besides, it is a requirement for single and two driver companies to join a consortium per CFR Part 40 ss382.305, refer to guidance question 11. This has noting to do with convenience for the FMCSA, it is to help insure an accurate test result and applies to all DOT regulated companies such as airlines, railroads, even pipeline construction companies not just FMCSA regulated truck drivers.

I use a local "occupation health" office at a hospital, they do our healthcards as well. No idea on the price, office staff chose it more based on convenience and it not being the place we used to use. They're also part of some sort of inter-state network so if we're out of state we can send a driver to some other hospital's OH department for their random. Our place is walking distance from our terminal which is nice.

I'm still waiting on someone to explain why the people making all these regulations and voting on them aren't the first ones to test ? Seems kind of backwards those making 25-50K a year are regulated more than those who legislate all this useless crap and those who get the good freebies don't test at all either.
Maybe this is how they keep the sheeple herds well regulated and maintained ?

    Hello,

Its been a while since my last post. But I'm out shopping around for a new consortium. I currently have NASTC which has worked fine. Just looking to save some more coin.

I use Express Labs. $100/yr. I think plus the price of the tests when they happen.
