My Qualcom buttons don't want to work very well. I have WD40 and CRC elictrical lube.
Can I spray either of these in there to get them to work?
in advance!

Ok, I'll bite. Are you talking about the plastic surface where you type ? or the physical connection of the device ? Maybe I'm missing something here in the question.

No. Get a new unit.

funny boy!
Yep some of the buttons have to be pressed really hard to get them to work. Real PITA. I would love to spray the key board with something to free them up.
Shop guy just turned away and didn't give me a response when I told them it worked. -
There is a way to take the unit apart and clean them the same way you can a keyboard. Just have to let your DM know ahead of time because it means unhooking the whole thing. Don't tell them you are taking it loose because you are going to clean the keys etc just tell them it's locked up and will do nothing. Any DM worth their weight knows the only way to correct that is to pull the plug and put it back. Once you get the thing unplugged (requires a screwdriver) open the box up. There is a plastic film over the actual working parts of the keys. You can clean the plastic film after taking it off and use a very soft brush (I used a 1" artists brush) and gently wipe off the working parts. Most of the time the issue is gunk built up on the soft plastic key cover that holds it to the hard plastic frame making it difficult for the working key to be mashed completely.
Hope that helps.rookietrucker Thanks this. -
I sprayed window cleaner lightly on the one I had and wiped the keys pushing each one in. If it breaks it oh well tell em it quit working and they'll have to replace it.

Rug Trucker I wasn't being funny. The most likely reason the keys are sticking is someone spilled a sugary liquid on the keyboard. That stuff will eventually cause that part of the Qualcom to fail. The reason I know this I had a unit do that. No it wasn't me that spilled, it was one of the drivers before me.

Scuby is right, tell your dispatcher and shop that you need a new keyboard. Taking it apart can get you terminated since you are not an "authorized person". I know, I know, it's an "easy fix" but for a driver it's considered "tampering with the unit".
MrMustard Thanks this. -
Problem with getting a new one is Rug works for Swift. The majority of the time the "parts changers" in the shop will not do anything if the unit is still working. Even if the Qualcomm unit will not beep it takes alot to get it replaced/repaired. You would think the units ran a hundred grand the way they seldom change them out or repair them. -
I had the same problem (Swift). I went to my home terminal, unplugged the unit, went the parts desk and said "it died". He handed me a new one.
Problem solved.
Of course you can drop it outside the truck if the cord is long enough......
