I am getting conflicting info from different sources i.e drivers, mechanics and scale repairmen.
I drive a single axle daycab freightliner and haul a set of 28' pups connected with single axle dolly.
our yard has a single axle weight scale, when you run across it and weigh each axle and then add the 5 axle weights together does that equal Gross vehicle weight?
or do you need a scale that weights the whole assembly together?
1 example is being stopped at the weight station and passing but when back at the terminal going over the scale and adding all 5 axles up it came out to 84,000#
conflicting axle weights

You could be legal up to 100k if all those axles are 20k rated.

That’s not exactly true. It may be a little more accurate to have the whole truck on the scale only if it’s a single platform scale.
Just look at all the Cat scales and most DOT scales at weigh stations. They almost all have individual platforms in the more modern stations.gentleroger, Feedman and kylefitzy Thank this. -
It’s possible the weigh station’s scale needs calibrated, but I can’t see it being off by that much.IH9300SBA and ElmerFudpucker Thank this.

Yes, but they are all reading in unison to give you a total actual weight.

Okay, I see what you're saying, it just took a minute to sink in, the brain damage is more severe than normal today.

If you add all of the axle weights it will equal the total gross weight. Is the axle scale on level ground so that the whole combination stays level no matter which axle is on the scale? If you can't keep the combination level, from front to back, then you won't get accurate weights to add to reach the gross weight.Feedman Thanks this.

Montana disagrees

I know, Lyle was correct. Like I said, the brain damage today is just worse than normal I guess.
