Once you get your "you passed TSA background check" letter from TSA take the letter, CDL, whatever TX requires for ID listed on the TX DPS website go to the driver license office, maybe it requires appointment or maybe you can walk in. They will put the X endorsement on your CDL. It can take a long or short time after you submit fingerprints until getting your TSA letter.

austinmike and Flat Earth Trucker Thank this. -
well I did fingerprints dude said license should arrive at mail would the endorsement be an h or x??? right now got N on my license. If I just get a letter I would have to go back to dps??? or just get a letter by mail then wait for another letter with my new license on it???

Did you take the Hazmat test at the DPS office?
-
yeah took tanker and hazmat test at dps in texas. Then next day I when to Identogo fingerprint the next day. In Texas they don't let us do anything hazmat until you have your license but you can take triples/tanker before you even get your actual cdl unlike other states where you can submit stuff beforehand so you don't wait. But some schools offer hazmat/tanker exam while you getting your permit.

Every state is different. Most states require 2 visits to driver license office for HazMat. My state issues CDL with all non-HM endorsements, go get fingerprinted, wait for letter from TSA saying "you passed", take letter to DL, hand over your CDL, they hand me back a CDL with HM & other endorsements. Your state may be different.

You can call or visit the desk office. When I lived in TX they just sent it to me but that was years ago.
-
X is combination Tanker & HazMat so you only get X on CDL AFTER both tanker & HazMat requirements are completed. The TSA letter is the last step. I've heard of it taking a couple weeks to avfew months. The delay is caused by TSA.

so just wait for a letter then wait for another letter with my new license to arrive?? no need to go to dps again after my tsa letter arrives?
-
No. Wait for letter From TSA then take your TSA letter & your CDL to TX DPS office. They will swap your non-HazMat CDL for a new HazMat CDL.
TX DPS may or may not require an appointment before your visit.
