It's when the Texas slaves were told they were free by the military. Some 2 years after Lincoln signed the emancipation.

June 19, 1865

 

Bill Fries (a/k/a C.W. McCall) intentionally set the date in "Convoy" to the date of the D-Day invasion. He later said he did so to express that he felt the way government bureaucrats and corrupt law enforcement officials were treating truck drivers, particularly with the then recently enacted 55 mph national speed limit, was getting to the point of tyranny. The follow up song, 'Round the World with the Rubber Duck, includes the lines:

Well, we crossed that Channel like snakes on glass
And stormed the beach about dawn
I says, "Grab your shifters and punch thirteen"
"We all goin' truckin' on the Autobahn

Then they crash the gate into East Berlin and cross the U.S.S.R. all the way to Japan.
