For anyone with a DDEC 3/4 11.1 or 12.7 that would like a 14L, here's a cheap way to go about it:
You'll need the head, injectors, rockers, wiring harness, ECM and preferably the cam from the DDEC 3/4.
Get yourself a used DDEC 5 14L. It's best to rebuild it at this point with 15:1 compression pistons although you can do this using the stock 16.75:1 pistons. The older head will bolt right on to the newer block. You use the N2 injectors, rockers, wiring harness and ecm from the DDEC 3/4. You have to lengthen the wires going to the SRS sensor as the 5s read off the cam instead of the bullgear and you'll be using the SRS sensor from the DDEC 5. You also have to move the fuel temp sensor from the top of the secondary filter to the fuel pump.
The cam for the DDEC 5 will work, but personally, I'm not a fan. If you're using your 3/4 cam, you'll need an adapter. You can buy them online or take both your cams to a machinist and have him cut the end off the 5 to make an adapter. Have him measure from the first lobe to get the length right. The hole that needs to be drilled in the adapter for the cam dowel has to be lined up with the keyway. The adapter that's pressed into the DDEC 3/4 gear is opposite for strength purposes but doing it like that will put your DDEC 5 out of time.
Since the EGR cooler will be in the scrap bin, you have to fab a pipe to replace it or you can buy one at your local dealer.
A pre low-nox 575hp HK60 calibration works best but you can continue running the calibration for the 12.7 in a pinch.
It's just that easy.
Disclaimer
This should only be done in a truck that originally came with a pre-emissions engine (no EGR, DPF, SCR).

What kind of benefit would having this kind of engine have compare to a tuned 550 12.7?

little cat 500 Thanks this.

I prefer a 12.7. 14 liter is a little more doggy on takeoff, and the Jake’s are a gutless wonder. Neither engine scares me though
