I have orientation for a conditional hire next week, Currently I have a DOT medical card good for 1 year due to blood pressure medications. Do I also need a medical release form or anything different from my Dr or just show them my prescriptions for blood pressure?
Don’t want to show up at orientation with my medical card and prescriptions only if there is something else I’m going to need from my Dr before attending.
Form states:
Medical Release: You are legally required to pass a DOT Physical. Please bring any medical releases or information the doctor may need to certify your ability to operate a truck per the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations.
Medical Release?

No. Just list the names of meds you take and dosage. As long as your BP falls within guidelines you are good.
Only way you might need release is if BP is too high and the examiner will tell you if you need one.tscottme Thanks this. -
So if I happen to fail because my blood pressure is to high, they’ll just refuse hire or will they suspend my current medical card and suspend my CDL?
-
Not necessarily. They will give you a chance to get with your doctor to either get a release or get it down. They can issue you a six month card to give you a chance to get it under control.

In the past, I've seen them let people sit down for 15-20min and then check them again. But it's always good to have any letters or statements from your doctor if he's giving you any. My deal is hypoglycemia where it's normal for me to pass some sugar in my urine. Had gotten turned down in Omaha, Tulsa and kc. Where I had to ride the bus back home to get a blood test done for diabetes. After the third one my doctor explained to me about hypoglycemia and so I had him make a letter up and the next dot physical, sure enough, you got diabetes you gotta go home and get tested before we can pass you. Gave them the letter and once they read it, ok you passed the physical. Of course my blood pressure is gonna be high, have you seen the foxy nurses running around here with there short skirts and those big headlights?! Ooommmmmmm
