Just a little confused because their website puts 2 years of OTR experience required but when I was applying, it didn't specify OTR, just 2 years of tractor trailer experience.

I have a cousin thats on his 5th L/P. I know a good bit of guys thats leasing and loosing. And I don't recommend it to anyone. However my big cousin just can't win.

5.5 yrs into a 3 yrs L/P $500 p/wk for a 98 freightliner. But he hasn't been able to complete the lease because the truck stays in the shop. The truck was down 14 months at one point. And I'm like man why don't you get a decent company job. The company even offered to buy the truck when the equipment shortage was taking place under the rona. But he was saying no im going to complete this lease. Now he wishes he would have took them up on the offer.

Some leases can work. But in hearing about and slightly reading through some contracts. 92% of leases are ppl just paying the company to say they have a job. I've even saw a video where a guy was on a L/P and only went home twice in a yr. When he tried to go home the last time. The company said he was behind on payments. And told him he was done. He gets angry, so the company calls the cops. After abt 30mins of back & forth. The company says we own the truck. Get him off our property. The guy records him self crying. And vows to get the truck back.


WHEW!!!!! I'D RATHER WORK AT A DECENT PRIVATE CARRIER. THEN GO THROUGH HELL LEASING!!!

O/O 90K P/YR AFTER ALL OVERHEAD COST.

DECENT COMPANY DRIVER 100K PLUS P/YR WITH NO OVERHEAD COSTS AND CALLS ROADSIDE FOR BREAKDOWNS ETC.

COMPANY DRIVER = NO STRESS OF BEING ABLE TO AFFORD FIXING EQUIPMENT, AND BEING DOWN FOR REPAIRS.

L/P & O/O=STRESS & MULTIPLE GRAY HAIRS FROM GETTING STIFFED BY REPAIR SHOPS, TOWING COMPANY, TIRE SHOPS, AND ETC. BUT ULTIMATELY THOSE WEEKLY $1200-$1800 LEASE PAYMENTS

 

I would never get my truck from the same place where I get my revenue. They could figure out exactly how much they had to run me in order for me to make my payment to them, and then sit me for the rest of the pay period.

Plus, the last time I looked at an l/p program the sum total of the payments added up to the cost of a brand new truck. I wasn't going to pay that much money for a truck that had almost 500k miles on it.

 

Sad news.. I won't be able to work there until I meet their criteria of 2 years of OTR experience. My dumb-self thought I might have a chance since their application stated 2 years tractor trailer experience and not specifically OTR.. @lual will have update you on my experience next year April :/

I knew I should have stayed with Schneider for another year!

 

Can you go back to Schneider and finish your 2 years OTR?
