Consistent loads out of Florida?

I pull a dry based out of Melbourne and to be honest, I’ve only taken two loads so far this year from Florida. Both were just recently, one paid incredibly well going to NJ that picked up in Plant City. The other was a bottled water load out of Groveland going to AL. Paid well for a one day load. Other than that it’s hard to compete with the morons down there.
There was a paper towel/toilet paper place in Sanford that I used to do a load now and again but the problem is trying to keep up with what brokers are pushing the loads. One day you’ll get an excellent rate and then the next there’s a different broker looking for an idiot who will run their truck for a loss.

When I did reefer spot market I rarely found anything that I would take.. I was also new at reefer back then and didn’t have any connections.

For me I can justify deadheading up to GA or the Carolina’s for a load because I stay out 4-6 weeks at a time. If I needed to come home every week or so it would definitely be tough going.

Haven’t really even seen anything decent going into Florida lately and it’s probably because of tourist season ended. During tourist season there’s tons of inbound trucks and rates leaving are a complete joke. On the other hand this time of year you may be able to find something that will work for a short haul out.

If you’re going to be stubborn on getting a decent rate no matter where you end up you’ll be sitting a lot like me.

 

From the threads I’ve read on here for years, most of them are negative about loads coming out of Florida. Most will not go into Florida because the loads coming out don’t pay squat. And if they do haul into Florida, they want excessive amount to make it worth while. Seems to me that you have no idea what you’re getting into. Goodluck.

 

I was a company driver pulling reefers.
Any time we went to Florida, CH Robinson had a load for us leaving Florida. My best load was tomatoes from Florida to California.
0/0's don't seem to like CH Robinson, but the company I drove for did real well pulling loads for the company.

 

Reefer. Dont waste your time with van. Get used to taking low rates out of Florida. If you want to survive you will, problem is, the spot rates into Florida currently don't support that though. Not since the covid boom died off a couple of years ago. Better get some direct customers going into Florida then the #### sandwich you eat leaving there is gravy. Or specialize in some driver unload/work down there that most people won't do. It's a competitive business and there's not a place in the whole US more competitive than Florida. If you buy a truck God have mercy on you. Some guys park their rigs hundreds of miles from Florida and fly home for time off. But the thing with that is there really ain't no time off when you got a business to run.
