You've got some learning to do when it comes to these 1099 outfits. He may have said the dealer, but with those companies, he is only going to deal with people he knows unless there is no other choice. Translation, he wasn't going to worry about that window til you got back to Chicago. Everything will be done in house if they can help it.

It's been alluded to earlier that they probably don't use DAC. Very few, if any 1099 companies do. You have nothing to worry about. All you gotta do is return the truck, put the key under the hood or wherever, and get out of town. What's the worst that can happen? I'm not sure what you're fearful of....if you're that uneasy, stick around til you pay off the damages and then leave.

    WheelSpin and TripleSix Thank this.

I've got a lot of dependents too....I'm not about to keep a job where there's an abundance of disrespect. There are too many trucking jobs for that. I don't even need to say a thing. My actions will speak.

    TripleSix and Thrasher28 Thank this.

Just quit. Or line up another job and then quit.

You hit a tree, it was a miscalculation.

"Put it on driver" as in charge the driver directly, and most drivers comply because they don't know better? Is this what you mean?

So you are staying, it is clear you don't want to deal with a real carrier and being treated as a human.

I do not doubt that he'll want to retaliate once I leave, but if he's unable to do anything to harm my license or career, then I don't care, even if he makes a 180° and becomes reasonable, the trust is gone at this point. I'm only aiming to protect my career and license and work history, as he left 0 reason for me to care about, or protect his interests.

Nope. 100% not staying. And will be on the lookout for similar traits in other carriers to avoid them.
