Well I found the welcome thread....finally.

New to this industry but so far so good.

My first gig was pulling a 48 flatbed in the northwest 11 states, very small company, to small actually, a flat tire (used to begin with) would shut me down for half a day, and fuel was also a issue - owner had to factor every load to get paid faster. Not the stability I was looking for, but while I was working it was.........very interesting. I did however have access to the load boards and could find my own loads which was very nice.

I now work for Knight Trans, out of Reno, NV. Since I have no real expectations (new driver) others then to make money I'm very happy here..so far. My DM is all business and somewhat personable.

I now drive the lower 48, and am constantly moving. So far nothing under 600 mile runs the most being 2200 miles. We seem to have a terminal in about every service area we run in which is also a big plus, I about craped myself when I saw you have to pay for parking in the east coast truck stops? =\

Thats about it I guess, looks like a good board I look forward checking out the rest of the site to see whats do'in and seeing whats up with everyone else.

    Cheers,
    Bosco

Welcome to the site Bosco! You're bound to notice, maybe you already have noticed, that Knight doesn't have a sterling reputation around here. I for one, would be interested in reading further posts from you as your experience with Knight Transportation continues. Best of luck to you as you continue as a driver and, by all means, stay in touch!

Its funny you say that I was looking in the thread about bad companies and didnt notice anything about Knight, at least not on the first page. I am still on paper logs so when that changes I'm sure my impression of Knight will also.

If all else fails I need to get the two years done so I have some latitude about who I drive for. I'm kind of stuck until then. If nothing changes in 6 months, I seriously thinking of leasing a 06 379 Pete (around 400k miles) from Knight. Ive run into a couple of O/O and they are doing very well. $350 a week with 500 down isnt horrible either with a dollar buyout at the end from what I'm hearing is pretty good.

But having a couple of failed businesses under my belt I know that the grass is always greener on the other side.

Whats the biggest complaint with Knight if I might ask?

Keep in mind that I'm a wannabe but I've done a gross ton of research into carriers.....not an expert, just an avid reader of the posts in the forum. My concerns with Knight have to do mainly with safety. I do think Knight Refrigerated has a better rep than Knight dry van.
There are many posts (hundreds, if not thousands) about Knight here. Very few are uplifting or even positive for that matter.
All carriers, if a person believes everything they read, are "out to get you". At age 56 I'm pretty adept at taking things with a grain of salt and considering the source, but, nevertheless, I've found that Knight leaves much to be desired.

So the biggest complaint I am seeing with Knight is they lie, what company doesnt? I think its all a matter of perspective and where you sit.

Working for the Flatbed company (which really is a good friend of mine who happens to run/own a flatbed company) I had complete control of the reigns, I did everything myself.

Working for Knight is the first time i've had to work for someone else in the last 10 years, but I can think of something I dont like. You cant hard wire an inverter in the truck, to me that is just...well unconstitutional...me thinks. :biggrin_2556:

    Cheers!
