I don't know, that's what it is designed for once you are detached.

You don't use it when you are unhooking the tractor from the neck do you? On my Aspen I just keep lowering the deck until it starts to lift off the fifth wheel.

Wait a minute, I wonder if it has settled down when you have been completely unhooked, then you hit it when backing back under the neck?

    That's all I got.

I really don't like those stubby neck supports.
The long ones work better and are more forgiving when backing under if it has sagged down

I put just enough pressure on it to lift it slightly
Pull away a little and air it up.
Hooking back up I get 5' away and then dump the air and back it all the way in.

@Oxbow Nope ive never hit it and don't use it when completely unhooking from the trailer......

I picked up the new one today, and they have changed the design. Took alot of the arch in the center(where mine broke at) out of it. Which im hoping is a good thing.

Did you buy this trailer new ? I'm just wondering if the arch was from being bent before you got it. I always detach the way IH Truck Guy just described.

The proper procedure for detaching is to dump the air. Tractor and trailer. Lower the trailer to the ground pull lock pins. Lower neck support to where it touches the tractor. Pull forward and raise tractor bags.

do everything in reverse to raise.

if you raise the bags before you raise the support arm you can cause this. It puts all the weight on that support. That’s the only time I have seen it happen. that arm is only strong enough to support the neck. Also I noticed you have a covered deck. It needs to be empty. Anything over about an additional 1500 pounds is overloading that arm.

I don't know about that. Maybe with that short support he has.
With the long neck support on mine,I can actually pick the empty trailer off the ground easily.
A longer neck would make it easier too. But he's not worried about trying to get more weight on the steers like we are.

an empty trailer perhaps. Maybe I wasn’t real clear. I’ve seen guys reconnect a loaded trailer. Then pump up the bags before they get out a pick up the deck. I doubt an empty trailer would cause that.

I never air up before the deck is in the air.
I was replying to your comment about having extra weight on the neck.
Or maybe I haven't had enough coffee.
