Once you get the hang of it, it's doesn't take too long. Maybe 15 to 30 minutes to secure it. And a lot of times, other drivers will help you secure and tarp it, to cut down their waiting time.

Best example I saw, I'd load aluminum coils out of Oswego, NY. There were 4 loading bays. You went in to find out which bay you'd be backing into, then went and set up you truck to back in, leaving room for truck already in there to pull out. Go back inside and help with securing other driver's loads and covering (covered wagon) or tarping them. Then that driver would leave and next truck would back in. Repeat helping till your turn came, then others would help you. Didn't matter who drove for which company, everybody pitched in.

Found similar situations at other places, as well. Sometimes, if weather is Ok, you could throw a couple of chains on, then move the truck carefully outside. Then finish securing and tarping. That cut down some of the waiting time.

One thing you'll find, is that flatbedders are more inclined to help each other out than other types of trailer drivers.
