I have a friend that has quite a bit of rank in the fire department. I had noticed a bunch of big Captain America looking guys wearing red shirts. All the firefighters are required to be in the gym. I think that’s great, because the stronger physically you are the better you bounce back from injury. And there will be injuries on the job.
They park the fire wagons right out front and carry the Motorolas in. If they get called, they go charging out of the gym.
One Saturday morning, I noticed that one of the younger guys was sitting in the truck. I asked my buddy about that. Why isn’t he training?
“He’s 7th Day Adventist.”
But he’s at work?
“Yep. We had that discussion. If he wants to be a firefighter, he has to work on the Sabbath. If he can’t, he can’t be a firefighter.”
So, he won’t hit the iron until sundown today.
“We will allow that compromise.”
Where is everyone #5

Hair cut? Hell I seen guys argue about the mustache rule on a FD. Mustache must not extend past the corner of the FF lips. Anyone worth there weight kept normally shaved and never fought this. The guys that did, never stayed very long.
It is proven that anything more than a few days growth cab effect the sealing of your SCBA. -

I’ve had a beard 90% of my adult life. Spent couple weeks in the Marathon plant by the Ky / WV border, had to shave my beard and felt naked as a jaybird…. -
I wouldn't of given this article a second look if TMC had not had the same problem, and lost, a couple of years earlier.
And I am well aware of the horrible
accidents that take place ever day in the work place. With that said if you don't want folks with long hair in your truck, post it. Make sure that before they show up for orientation they have signed a statement of understanding they will have to have a crew cut to work there.
I have seen lots of TMC drivers who do not have crew cuts. So what are the hair length requirements to work for TMC? Not that I give a rip about it actually but there are TMC drivers out there that don't have crew cuts.
And just to be clear, I don't care what color the driver is. If it is required for one driver in the fleet it should be required for all drivers in the fleet no matter the color of the driver.Last edited: Jul 17, 2024

Sorry to hear about your dad @OLDSKOOLERnWV.
I've been puttin off resealing my rear ends for over a year now. Last week my front started leaking pretty good, so I guees it's time. Got the back done yesterday with a new input seal and yoke.
Had to order front and thru shaft yokes. Gonna throw in new thru shaft bearings, reseal the power divider, and remove a shim off the input. Finally get rid of these dahm u joints and carrier brg I've had on the shelf for a year.
At least there won't be a 111* heat index today.

Used to run blast resistant buildings, from Houston to the refineries in Louisiana. Ran 4 of them in one week to the ExxonMobile plant downtown Baton Rouge. Had to be clean shaven, was on the load offer. My 4th delivered on Thursday morning. Plant closed Fri-Sun. I am sitting at one of the truck stops getting ready for some seafood. 130pm.
Travel agent calls me and tells me about a driver who refuses to shave and got refused entry. He asks if I would run the guy’s load in, but we have to hurry because the plant closes at 2pm. I agree because I had been pulling those loads for six months and I want to protect my freight. I get there at 1:50 to realize the driver had removed all the securement. Idiot. I don’t have time to secure the load. I call dispatch and tell them that driver is SOL til Monday. He screwed up. He can figure it out himself.
Would you believe that this driver tried to play the race card? 3 days worth of stubble and he refuses to shave. Gotcha…enjoy your weekend, champ. -

What the heck? So I click on your link in the email and it time warps me back to Sept of 2019. Is your truck a Tardis?
Now that was odd, but today has been odd, so why not this too.
My part of Texas is still in a heat index warning, but cool beverages, shade and breezes should be kept in mind just about anywhere this summer. -
Well hell. I'll blame it on the driver before me.
