How are shipper and receivers going to communicate if you can't hear them.. I doubt most are willing to spend the money to teach their employees sign language..
My personal oppinion is that if you can't hear you do not drive a 80,000lb missle...

I have to agree and as for hearing goes I haul horses and you can hear one when they start kicking and having a fit in the trailer we may seem like we dont know whats goin on but all those little sound and vibrations can tell you something.

How about hearing a far off train while in a construction zone or someone noticing a kid behind your truck yelling stop?
Just because fellow drivers worry about safety, and those who want to drive thinking standards are for the other guy, that doesn't make us ignorant.
Truth is, slightly better sight, hearing, reaction time, makes you a much better and safer driver.
And I have to wonder, and Lord knows I don't wish it, if someone died due to you not hearing that far off yell "STOP!" you would have lived your dream and destroyed another.
And don't ever call me ignorant!
AND YES I hear tons outside, even with the windows up. As a biker, It's the trucker who saves our biker skin! They hear you and more than once a trucker shielded me while I took a turn in an intersection.
God bless you brothers and sisters. I'm proud to be joining you as a newb. I owe many of you.doubledragon5 Thanks this. -
Truckers are only allowed to be deaf, when they are NOT listening to what their wife is telling them!
doubledragon5 and RonS666 Thank this. -
You won't see everything all the time. What you don't here may be the guy yelling "stop the truck, stupid!" Thats why alot of guys put their windows down when they back up. You want to be able to see as well as hear all that you can. We had a guy get hit by a switcher at a rail head that he could not see coming but should have heard. -
Actually I today had to cross tracks with no flashing signals. Also had curves with trees close to the road.
I couldn't see what was coming till the tip of the nose of the truck was on the tracks. Truly you would have to hear the train to know it was coming.
