I gotcha. Yeah I know how the spindle doctors do it. There is also on brand that they actually thread the axle tube and screw a new spindle in.

I think the company in the video above does that. It's impressive and looks like a decent money maker.ElmerFudpucker Thanks this.

From seeing this weld on the end, looks like they used a rod in the center bore. Never saw one repaired like this before just the whole spindle changed out.

Myself - not knowing who did it, how the repair was done and with no invoice to back it up - would have it replaced. That's just me. My concern would be how an accident investigator and/or lawyer would see it if that wheel ever came off, even if it was unrelated to the repair.

I saw a very similar repair on a customer’s dump trailer several years ago. Kinda even looks like it could have been welded by the same guy. It was on the back axle of a frameless trailer so I just assumed maybe it somehow got broken and this was a quick fix so to speak. I asked about it….apparently it had been done before he bought it. So bottom line is it has held for 7 years as the back axle of a frameless dump that hauls a lot of lime….must have been a decent job. Id say run it unless you think it’s causing the problem that you removed the hub for

Well, while I haven't seen one repaired that way before, the outer bearing surface is where the usual trouble is unless there's a failure.
You hardly ever see issues with the inner bearing wearing the surface like an outer bearing does to the bottom of the spindle.
And while I called it a hack job, your seal wasn't leaking. If it wasn't square, you'd have had bearing and seal issues constantly.ElmerFudpucker Thanks this. -
I have been thinking about this repair. And honestly if the bearing stays tight I don’t really see how you would get much flex at that joint. So it probably is perfectly safe.

I've had all mine replaced on my 03 Pete 2 millions + miles. Axle Surgeon. Got tired of seals failing. The sleeves are just a cheap patch job that IMHO are not worth the effort or $$$$
