Hello all! My fiancé and I have a year and a half of OTR experience 2 years of CDL experience in total and want to get into flatbed loads and eventually oversize/heavy haul. We have mostly done Reefer Loads, Twistlock Container Flatbed (no strapping), and dry van (AA&E, Specialized, Hazmat, Hazwaste, High Value High Risk).
Is there a company out there willing to train us very well on flatbed? We are Las Vegas natives living in Henderson, NV.

For the better recommendations -- knowing your location would help out A LOT.
A zip code would work just great.

My apologies! I live in Las Vegas, NV (Henderson specific 89052)

Chinatown Thanks this.

The CDL job market right now is in bad shape.
But since you guys are experienced drivers -- I would think a flatbed carrier would be proud to pick you up.
I would suggest you check out Roehl Transport first, because:
- They have a dropyard there in Vegas
- They also train experienced drivers who want to learn/get into flatbed
- They have more/better hometime options than the other carriers that teach flatbed
- They also offer conestoga opportunities

@Nahbrown and his wife are doing the same with flatbed.
Maybe they'll see your thread and update their progress.

**Update** - life is goodwe started hauling Department of Defense AA&E, sensitive/secure 11 weeks ago. We have taken 2 weeks off and after the company takes its 25% we have Grossed $107,000.
We did buy a 2020 Volvo 860 and have been leasing a flatbed until the one we ordered arrives in August.
As to your question on flatbed training, I recommend calling ATS, they really impressed me and we gave serious consideration to going there. I already had my security clearance but they wanted to wait 6 months to get my wife her clearance So we went elsewhere.
ATS hires drivers or lease on owner operators and haul all types of flatbed to include AA&E and heavy haul. I talked to one of their drivers who described their training and oversized progression program. It seemed well thought out. 888-719-3241 CDL Truck Driving Careers | Drive4ATS.
IMO you have the right idea- Be specialized! Heavy, over dimension or AA&E, are examples of where you want to be in this horrible trucking economy. (im sure there are more Ive never heard of)Last edited: Jul 31, 2024

Curtainside and RGN, in my opinion, are they two best fleets to get into if you are working for Roehl Transport in terms of pay for the work you do. If you do anything with curtainside or Conestoga trailers at Roehl you are not required to tarp or chain anything which is why most people like pulling those trailers. -
