Twenty-five years driving. Mostly OTR, but some local indy and some dump/roll off. Was working for a Canadian company out of Indy for nearly three years. Frankly it was a crappy company but they hired me when I had just been let go by a great company for failing a drug test required to return to service from a two week medical leave. I completed SAP program with no issues.
I quit the crappy company in Feb 2024 to move to Florida. Figured I'd get a driving job there no sweat. I turned seventy-five years old in Dec 2023. Most of the many companies I've applied to were ok with the three year old SAP completion but learned their insurance wouldn't accept a driver my age.
I never had a moving violation or an at fault accident. I love to drive. Got a fresh two year physical six months ago. Wish I had stayed with the crappy company. Didn't realize my age would be a hiring barrier. I sure could use some advice from anyone here. Thx in advance.

Your problems are as follows:
- recent SAP grad
- an already VER-RY BAD CDL job market
- (depending on where you are) you moved to Florida; certain parts of FL probably have a CDL job scene that is worse
Where are you now in FL? A zip code would be a big help.

Sounds like age discrimination, if it can be proved.

Might be time to downsize from the "A" driving to "B". You have been on the planet for quite some time. Change is good. I've been driving for about 20 yrs. I look forward to downsizing as well. The driving market has definitely changed. Florida of all places. I would look at some different jobs. Apply at all companies you are interested in see what happens. If no door opens move to the next step. You know this as we get older certain opportunities are no longer available to us that is how life goes. We have to be willing to go along with the changes in life. All the best to you on your journey.gentleroger Thanks this.

The age thing ain't that serious in my view. I came across a 78 year old in Illinois who was driving for Freymiller. That may be an option. Then there was another time I came across a 70 year old first year driver in Pennsylvania. He was driving for Stevens Transport. I'd look at both of those companies. If your SAP is 3 years old, that won't necessarily hold you back. Enough time has passed on that. I think your biggest albatross is you being in Florida combined with the aforementioned bad job market.

Thanks Lual. Good summation. I'm in Spring Hill, Fl, which is 45-50 mi N of Tampa Bay. Zip is 34609.
I'm not attached to Fla. Still hold Indiana CDL and vehicle registration. Would move back to Indy (or anywhere else) for a job. Everything I own fits into my full size Yukon.bentstrider83 and TripleSix Thank this. -
Don't give up and also ignore the negative. You'll find a decent job.
