Blew an axle seal.
It’s happened to me a couple of times.
On my previous truck the OEM axle seals had the consistency of paper, they fell apart as such.Last edited: Aug 12, 2024

Had some tractor haulers deliver new Peterbilt 579's to the yard in Visalia several years ago. For whatever reason the hub seal was removed during during transit and a square of wood was screwed in as a cover.
The replacement seal the transporters used didn't fit right, so it was a stop at the ole Petro to have the correct size seal installed. -
No what he actually done is blowed a differential. Pulled the axles out of it and locked the power divider in to get it to pull. Lots of times leaving the axles in and just locking the power divider in causes carnage that results in impossible movement. It’s and old owner op trick used for years. Tennessee is a bunch of ####in morons. Never mind the people in this thread ain’t ever been there and won’t ever get it.
Hub seals are inside axles seal to hub with a gasket or silicone. It’s only splash oil and not really a big deal. The wood takes the place of the axle and keeps oil from splashing out. If axles are removed the the hub floats on spindle like a trailer axle and you don’t have to remove the drive shaft to tow it.Flat Earth Trucker, Sons Hero, bryan21384 and 3 others Thank this. -
Had a couple of wanna be mechanics at a place i used to work destroy a diff because they forgot to refill it after having it split in half to reseal it. When it went boom I got called to do a road side rescue on a busy on ramp to I-15. I took a battery impact, sockets, and a big hammer.... Removed both the axles from that diff, locked the power divider, and told the driver to head STRAIGHT to the shop 5 miles away. Took me less than 15 mins roadside.
So yeah, been there done that.Flat Earth Trucker, Sons Hero, bryan21384 and 1 other person Thank this. -
There’s more to this story. This is a super single and there’s bodywork around it. I’ve no idea what this is mounted to.

He's doing it wrong. If he had used flex seal, he would have gotten away with it till he got to a shop. Don't ask me how I know that.
Flat Earth Trucker, mjd4277, Cattleman84 and 3 others Thank this. -
He was also driving while suspended. Wonder how a rocket scientist like that got suspended?
Flat Earth Trucker Thanks this.
