I came down from Carson City yesterday, ran 395, the end north of Mammoth is a real piece of work, between corners, towns, road work. I would hate to do that trip in the snow.
I normally take 80 over to Fallon, then 95 south thru Mina to Hwy 6 up over the hill to 395 in Bishop, a lot easier of a drive and true its 40 miles longer but you stay moving at speed for the most part.
Any one else have any feelings on the north end of 395, also from Carson City up, just a 2 lane thru towns.
395 vs 395 /6 /95

Anything from Alturas north is empty & nice. Not much cellphone coverage.

I’d ask the owner of the truck how they feel about the 40 extra miles given what the market is like currently.

40 miles comparing to what stretch on highways? 100 traffic lights stop and go? 200? How many times running transmission up and down, breaks, extra fuel from stop to go? Slow vehicles that can not be passed, etc.

Yea I opted for Highway 6 & 95 thru Fallon on the way back to Sparks, Much better, easier drive. Spent the night in Hawthorne NV, better all the way around. Now waiting for dispatch to get out of Salem Or. Done with mountains and pine trees for a while I hope. Prefer the Deserts.

And more chicken ranches to stop and "relax".....
