    Do any of you have an aftermarket storage box mounted on your catwalk? By aftermarket, I mean something you bought yourself and bolted on. If you do, I’m curious what the dimensions of the box are or the brand/model. I’m looking to buy one that will be compatible with the trailer fender height on our tanks while making sharp turns and backing without having to slide my hitch back too much. I bought a plastic chest from Home Depot several years ago, but it eventually cracked and didn’t hold up well.

    I have the trailer tongue tool box from Harbor freight it has been holding up fine no trailer issues been on for a little over a year. I keep oil, coolant,spare wiper,windshield washer fluid, air line for tires and some misc. spray cans of lubes . https://www.harborfreight.com/2-34-cu-ft-steel-trailer-tongue-box-62253.html

    I'm not due for a new truck for another 150-200k, hopefully they have a Freightliner available. Not really keen on Kenworth as it going to be same as the Petes.

    Any issues with air lines dragging on it?. I had a plastic box I got from Tractor supply and I was always paranoid about airlines getting hung up on it. In the end I ditched it and just carried less stuff.

    A frame mount tire chain hanger might be a good buy as the chains take up a lot of under bunk space.

    I'm not really due for a new truck either but I agreed to be a trainer in exchange for a Freightliner (my truck is currently a single bunk so I would have to change trucks anyway and the Freightliners are all double bunks) so once I'm approved to be a trainer and a Freightliner is available, which I think there should be at least one right now, I should be getting one. And yeah the kenworth is gonna be the same engine/transmission setup as the Peterbilt but the reason I didn't consider a kenworth is that they have the radar sensor and lane departure warning. Seeing as I'm not a steering wheel holder I'm gonna pass on all that extra BS.

    That looks like a good setup. The box I had was plastic, low profile, and was big enough for my chains and a few other things. The plastic part was the issue I had. I went up to Alexandria, MN one Winter where it was -10 degrees and the plastic became very brittle in the cold. It developed a few cracks that I lived with for a while, but eventually shattered into several pieces as the chains shifted.

    I’ve been thinking about building my own out of 3/4” plywood and skinning it with white .030 flat aluminum like you see on cargo trailers or black diamond plate, then using seam tape and trim to waterproof the edges and corners like they do on RVs. A lot of people build those small teardrop campers and make their own refrigerator box on the tongue using the same construction method. RV baggage doors are fairly inexpensive, too, and I could install the door facing the side for easy access. By building my own it would enable me to get the exact dimensions I’m wanting. That box you have looks pretty good, though.

    When I installed the box I mounted it close to the sleeper but made sure if the light pigtail had to be replaced it could be done with out any issues, also I mounted the box on an old rubber mud flap to keep it off the grate, and I moved the glad hand holder up higher on the pogo stick.

    I'd definitely take the Freightliner. My small company bought a new Kenworth for one of our long term drivers. I suppose he likes it, but the mechanics told me the Eaton automatics still pretty much suck.
