back, perhaps im tooo nice of a guy... but the reason i havnt not really asked for a new truck is because somebody who is struggling to get by could be in this truck, and would have made no money the past 2 weeks...
for me.. not married, no kids, live at my parents, no major bills... id rather see me sit then see a driver who needs the money way more then me... i guess im too nice?

1810 is still a 5 year old truck! What's the mileage on something like that now? Over 600k?
I figured you're alright s2b being single like me. I just go crazy after a few days of not working. Even working local, I try to work all the time. I just like knowing what I'm doing each day running local than the un-knowns of OTR. -
but i guess ill remember it for next time...
1810 may not have that many miles on it... i was in 1814 for a year and when i got out of it it only had about 460k on it... -
S2b,
I've been following the thread for a few months now, I'm scheduled to test for my CDL on the 19th and have pre-hire from Roxy for the 2nd. Some of the things that are being said here the last few days are a bit disconcerting ie.(miles, equipment, repair time) especially for someone who's deciding where to start a new career. I'd be happy to hear responses from anyone.....just a bit concerned. -
gostrider, that's trucking. I think the reason sb2 sounded upset was because he couldn't run while the cry babies didn't want to get trucken on a good set of wheels. Nothing is more upsetting when the miles are there but you can't move. Less money and cuts into your home time because of the loss of earnings. I am sure sb2 will have more to say. Good luck.
soon2betrucking Thanks this. -
Ghostrider. Like what was just said.. that's trucking. The only way you'll have a consistent paycheck for the most part is in local trucking. OTR there's a lot of variables that can stop your week from going good no matter what outfit you're with.
soon2betrucking, LostOne9 and MoneyCat Thank this. -
I guess the hardest thing at this point is trying to figure out the best company available to go with as a newb. I talked with a W/S driver in a truckstop last week who was based out of Conover and he said that he's running his butt off, never sits and is making good money. He's been with them 6 months, was driving a Columbia that appeared to be in good shape and said he's generally happy so far.

I started with watkins and it was a good experience, sure there were bad moments, but thats the same everywhere, I kinda wished I didn't quit to go local, but I got pretty good miles and for the most part everyone helped each other out there. Can't say the same for other companiessoon2betrucking Thanks this. -
Ghost, go for it, honestly there are issues with every company. I can say after 2 weeks I picked a good one. Yea ive had a few bad apple trucks since I began and this one sat in the shop for a few days getting repaired but now that im running Ive gone from California to Georgia now im up in Ohio tonight, the miles are there and I found out that even if they say you have to be there if its not physically possible a simple NO and they change their schedule around that. I missed a drop tonight by 1 hour, I was out on my 11 hrs and I was maxed on my 14 hours, I got a total of 600 miles in today, I was bummed because i am so close (60 miles) from the terminal and that would have been ok.
I have ran 11 hour days non stop Since 4/11 when I got my truck back. The biggest advise I can say is DO NOT SAY NO to a load. If you cant make it tell them but dont refuse the little ones because they can and will lead to a biggy. My first week was 300 here, 500 then 6 and so forth, I went on hometime and gave the mechanics 4 days to fix my truck, they got it all done and I am very happy. My list was 2 pages long and the only thing they didnt get was my door wasnt shutting right, they had to order parts and told me they will be there when I come back to California.
My last 2 days have been pretty rough, I had to take my 10 hour break around 4pm local time, which puts me back in the seat around 2am, those are rough but I am adjusting. part of its being on Eastern time, my 2am their 5am..
this job isnt easy and half way through the day I wonder still what I got into, but then when im filling out my logs and stuff at the end of the day to put a number in there for milage just makes me feel like I completed something. And the country side ive been though already is just awesome.
/End Rambling....
PS if anyone is in the TA at Lodi (Exit 190) come say hi. I am parked out front near the entrance truck is 1828. feel free to knock on my doorLostOne9 Thanks this.
