I'm a former Site Manager of IdleAire, in Mt.Vernon, IL (12/06-8/0) and E. St.Louis, IL (8/08-1/2010). I'd like to apologize to those of you who got ran out of IA spaces when there was no parking available elsewhere first. That was wrong.
Our policy, as per the agreements we had with Pilot, TA and Petro were that as long as there was other parking available, we could ask people who didn't intend to use the service to move to one of those locations. If there was no other parking available though, we were supposed to let people park there. This arrangement was predicated on the fact that we had ~ 1.5mil invested in each location for infrastructure, and the travel centers got a percentage of our gross every month in rent. The only thing we were supposed to enforce hard was the no back-in policy, because we had so many units pulled down from back-ins.
Over that 3 year run, I had a LOT of great customers who loved the service, and I enjoyed providing it and interacting with them. Unfortunately, we had other people who were less enthusiastic about treating drivers like family than I was (never working for me - I fired those types!), and that hurt our business badly. In all honesty, we never needed everyone to use the service ALL the time, just most of the drivers, some of the time. I'd really like to go back to operating an IA site if it gets re-started, hopefully 3-5 of them this time, so that I'll at least know that 3-5 are being ran right this time, instead of just the one I had before.
Ya'll be careful out there, and if IA does get re-started, you'll hopefully be able to find me again at the site in E. St.Louis, IL at the Pilot. Take care.
idleaire to return from dead as something else!!!

He is planning on restarting it, not sure how many sites and which ones yet.
-
Who is "he"?
-
The individual I met who purchased the patent for Idleaire. Not going to throw out his name on the interweb.
-
He wasn't sitting at a truck stop lunch counter was he?
-
No, he was at an auction purchasing a multi-million dollar facility.
-
That's good. I have met more than a couple Navy Seals and bankrupt millionaires at truck stop counters.Injun Thanks this.

LOL that was a good one.

LOL Quite a few tall tales out there, eh? While talking to one of my customers for awhile back in 07, we got on the subject of military service & I said I'd been in communications & PATRIOT missiles. He was ecstatic to finally meet another service member out on the road that wasn't a Special Forces/SEAL/Force Recon/Black Ops claimant. He made a great point that we don't have to have all been some sort of special ops to be proud of our service & many people don't seem to get that. One of my favorite quotes is "you don't have to lie to be my friend".
