Peterbilt 587 vs. KW700

but im betting your thinking of a t800H

 

ya still way to short for a B model

 

Maybe i'm getting my letters mixed up, but i'm pretty sure KW makes/made a shorter hood w-900 and i'm not talking the t-800 either.

i will try to dig up a picture but i know for sure that kw offered/offers one where the hood is shorter AND the grill is wider than the typical long nose w-900 alot of you know and love where the grill is actually pretty narrow

Apparently, they don't make the A model anymore and haven't for a long time(thanks for not telling me and letting me make a fool of myself)

They only offer W900L, which is the long nose everyone knows and loves with the 130"BBC,

---the w900B or w900, with the 120/121?" BBC,

---And some construction model---w900S? which looks like a setfoward axle t-800.

Also, i think, the w9B can be ordered w/a larger radiator and this may be the other reason why the grill seems larger than on the w9L.

So, i'm thinking 120"+38"= 158" OK, somethings not right here.

OK, 200"WB or less.

So, my new requirement is WB under 200".

i need a formula to determine fifth wheel positioning/minimum wheelbase requirements etc.

 

The W900 B is all they make....You can get the long hood version of it and it's called a W900L...1982 was the last year for the W900A.

Sonny Pruitts truck was a 1974 W925 A with a VIT package with a 60" flat top walk in definetly not a 180".

The truck in the pilot for the series was a 1973 KW W925 with a 36" coffin box sleeper and a much shorter wheelbase but you'd have to be a masochist to want to run OTR in a truck with those specs today.

 

Hood length was originally tied to engine size...In the earlier trucks if you wanted a motor like a Cat 1693 it would usually be in an extended hood format, You could get them in a short hood version but that was generally something that would have to be ordered special.

The extended hood "look" became very popular with drivers and then became almost standard equipment on Pete conventionals in the mid 80's. KW introduced the W900L in the late 80's and it quickly became the flagship conventional KW.
Though the grille is slightly narrower it has no effect on cooling capacity because the radiator size is not any less than in a wider nosed short hood version..

You can still get a short hood but they are not too popular and the have a negative effect on the resale price of the truck.

 

I like peterbuilts better than kenworths so I'll go with Peterbuilt 587
