    Hello to all,

Looking into breaking into the trucking business as a new career. Right now based on Long Island and planning a move to Indy area in a year or so... Dad, cousin, and Uncle all lifetime truckers (mostly local). Have my CDL 'A', Hazmat/tanker...have doubles/triples permit and am going for the MetalCoil in the next 2 weeks. I've been reading all I can on the site and really find it very valuable...thanks to all who post such informative info.

Kind of taken aback at the horror stories regarding newbies trying to break in to the business. I hope to be able to make as good a choice as I can regarding an OTR company that will get me at least a year's experience hopefully without TOO MANY horror stories. I've tried for local jobs but no companies hiring without 1 year minimum.

Any hints or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks and look forward to speaking with as many of you as I can.

Welcome to the forum SneekyPete! There are a lot of horror stories being told but there are also many success stories. There's a lot happening in the industry today, regulation-wise, so at least some of the horror stories come from drivers fed up with new regs. Search out the good posts and the good posters. There are plenty of veteran drivers here who have good things to say. Good luck to you....study up here and you'll land on your feet!
