Baptists churches did a lot during Katrina. Maybe southern Baptist organization would be a good place to start.

It’s not as easy as it sounds. First you have get the donations and get them on the truck. Driving to the area will be kinda hard. Plus you need a place to unload the truck and people to unload the truck. Then you have get everything distributed to the people.

You can’t just unload 40,000 lbs of water in disaster area and hope people come and pickup a case or several cases.

It’s very noble of you, but if you are needed you will be asked. Just continue to do what you do and remember these folks in your prayers. There are still people needed to continue with everyday life.

I just read, Dolly Parton, o_O, just donated a million bucks, and I think Walmart/Sams is donating $10 mil. Being the richest country in the world, I'm confident there's enough money, just the magnitude of the pictures coming in, homes and businesses with a foot of mud, and that's not ordinary mud, you know, it's sewage mud, are pretty disturbing. How do you fix that? . Experts agree it could outpace Katrina in costs.

Not to downplay Katrina, the loss of life there was staggering, but it was basically rebuild the levy (army engineers) and pump the water out then clean up and rebuild. This is massive mudslides, 2 interstates wiped out, roads out all over the place and winter closing in on a mountain. It’s going to be a while.

I when I was at Landstar I got on hurricane Katrina. I had a truckload of the blue tarps. FEMA had water and tarps in 3 or 4 BIG warehouse in Fort Worth Texas. They probably have other warehouses around the Country.

I only took them 3 or 4 days to clean out the entire supply. I was supposed to get water but they were out when I arrived and I got the blue tarps instead.

I then hauled them to staging area in Louisiana. FEMA had their mobile trailers set up and they would dispatch the truck from here. The trucks with the water would show up and leave right away. I had the blue tarps and just sit in staging area.

The national guard has to setup unloading zones for the trucks. Because they had to clear a road and they also had to escort the truck to the unloading zone. There was no signs and trees blocking the roads. That’s why the national guard had to escort the trucks, drivers could not find the unloading zone and would get lost or get stuck.

Then the national guard had to put the water and supplies on the special trucks they had that could drive thru water and over tree limbs and everything.

Some drivers took their regular OTR trucks and drove thru water and got water in drive axles then they expected FEMA to pay for the repairs and were not happy when they said no. That’s also why the national guard had to escort trucks to unloading zone so they did not drive thru some water

Drivers had leave the FEMA staging are and go meet the national guard at some random place. So they could escort them to the unloading zones. They had drivers that could not find the meeting location and they would come back to the FEMA staging area. They did not tell FEMA so FEMA was saying they dispatched trucks and the national guard was saying how come no trucks are here. That a big thing on the news at that time about FEMA not getting the water and stuff to the people at the Super Dome in New Orleans

They also had drivers getting low on diesel. No place to fill up in disaster areas. If truck had dual 150 tanks were ok but other's had trouble. To solve that problem they had some company from California bring these huge rubber tanks that were like 30+ feet long and they just set them on the ground and filled them with diesel. So they could fill trucks up that come in low on diesel.

I was just at my cousin's home in Swannanoa. Their home and many others were flooded. There were at least 20 people from Samaritans purse just at their house helping. Must have been over 100 just in that neighborhood alone. I can verifiably vouch for Samaritans purse.
