How about a thread called "Dream Regulations"?
- NO NAFTA trucks in the US.....
- Colorado coops shall be closed permanently until they get their scales calibrated......
The last one in particular would have been nice the other day going through Monument.....
Apparently they don't know that spreads can carry up to 20K per axle....Oh wait.....I had 16,680 on both trailer axles...and they told me I was 750 Lbs over.......![]()
Name your favorite regulation!

What's the latest on my homeboy Gene Taylor's proposal? I haven't seen the news in a couple of days. Plus I don't understand legislative process.
-
Were you cited? Have to pay a ticket? Are your axles more than 8' apart?

When I worked the scales we allowed 10%. 16,680 X .1 = 1,668.

Mike.....My spread trailer is 10' 1" California legal.......
Nevertheless.....This was CDOT's way of trying to screw me and they lost......
How does 16,680 on each rear make the axle weight 750 over?
California legal spreads are allowed to carry 20K on each axle......JustSonny Thanks this. -
BTW.....CO is the only state that requires the VIN# displayed with the last 8 digits....
CDOT needs to update their system.....
Vehicle ID's can be traced with the last 6 or the IRP plate numbers....
Meanwhile...I guess I will continue doing the "CDOT Exercise Program" every time I get pulled in at the coops.....

You never answered the question. Were you cited for the 750 pounds over? Or did you see the weight posted on the scale head as you weighed your axles and were sweating the issue?
Colorado does not require you to put the last 8 of the VIN. It's voluntary; however, by doing so you avoid having to park and come inside to clear the scale.
While some of the newer VINs maybe identifiable by the last 6 digits, some older vehicles are still in the system with VINs that don't meet the current VIN standard. Therefore, the last 8 is required.

I was brought in for that reason and the VIN...
The officer was going to write me a fine...But he agreed to a reweigh.....If I wasn't persistent and said "Ok, I'll take the fine....." I would have been $32 lighter in the wallet...
I know that that....But if it were "Voluntary" and I didn't walk inside....I'd have a nice state trooper give me a nice pair of cuffs....It's not "Voluntary" if you have to walk in...
I have a brand new tractor......6 is enough...
But I will comply...I'm going to my graphics guy to have a specially made ID for CDOT.......Wow...who'da thunk that spending a $100 on graphics would save me the hassle of getting pulled in by CDOT.......JustSonny Thanks this. -
Oh and Mike....
Why does CDOT insist that spread axle weights are the same as tandems???
10' 1" is legal to 20K per axle...not 17K like tandems....
And 16,680 is a long ways away from 20K.....
Bottom line...O/O's are "Rolling ATM's" in CO just like they are in OR....
And anyone who denies that is either ignorant or lying....JustSonny Thanks this. -
My favorite:
You cant speak English. You get put out of service. Straight from the mouth of a Kansas DOT Officer.JustSonny, truckerdave1970 and Working Class Patriot Thank this. -
I bet 1/3 to 1/2 the trucks running produce in CA would be OOS. Man, I would love to see that rule enforced ALOT more often!!!JustSonny Thanks this.
