Exactly...DOT are government employees.....
In other words.....They Work For Us....
They have their jobs and most approach their jobs professionally.....and some don't...
Just like us....some of us are professionals....some are merely "Steering-wheel Holders".....
When the coop pulls me in for a permit check or some other reason.....I walk in with a good attitude.....
If they try to hit me up for something I know they are definitely wrong....I'm still respectful, but I #### sure won't take it in the shorts either....
So you think you're cleaver?

Do not confuse the scales and roadside officers with the DOT. In Colorado the scales are run by the Dept of Revenue for taxation issues. Roadside officers in CO and AZ work for the Department of Public Safety.
While the feds helps fund the roadside officers and scales, the people on the roadside and ports are typically state employees.
Actually government employees work for the public's interest. Not the transportation industry.
Be safe. -
And we are never the public. Nobody is.Working Class Patriot Thanks this.
-
Some people who are in the the public sector seem to have it backwards....
and btw....OK DOT are not peace officers either...
Mike I do not confuse anyone...
It's my job to know the regs as well as DOT or troopers....
In fact...I have shown more than one state trooper how to read and understand a log book...
I was not arrogant...and they thanked me.....JustSonny Thanks this. -
Mike it would seem you have an agenda that is anti-driver....
Most of your posts reflect that.....
As drivers...we know the laws....it's our jobs....
You assume every single one of us is a hazard....
Hmmmm...not unlike many members of the general public who assume that in every 4-Wheeler versus truck accident, it is always the truckers fault....
Unfortunately for us...the drivers...when they are found not at fault....it still goes on their Safe-Stat and in Nov...on CSA 2010 as points on their records.....
Oh well...The goal of shutting the highways down may be close at hand......outerspacehillbilly, JustSonny and truckerdave1970 Thank this. -
Under the current conditions in this country....That is highly debatable!
Why?
When we are safe and compliant you guys just turn it into a game of "I'm gonna waste this guys time trying to find something...Anything that I can turn against him".
Because the "Interest of safety" went out the window years ago and now it's all about digging and digging until you find some reason to extract money from a guy!
The obvious morons that run junk that is falling apart...I understand and agree with but when you guys cop an attitude when you "can't find anything"......That's when the truth comes to the surface!
I recently went through a roadside inspection in Kentucky...When I first stopped the guy was pleasant enough and asked for my log book and then said he was gonna inspect me and it would just take a couple of minutes.
After about 10 minutes or so he comes up and says he couldn't see any problems but he was gonna have another guy come over to help him with the rest of the inspection...For some reason he seemed to be kind'a pissed off!
Another 10 or fifteen minutes went by and they were having me apply brakes and pump down my air and all of the usual stuff and he gets a tape measure out and starts measuring the size of the lettering of my DOT, MC, VIN and so on...
After it was over he came and handed me a clean inspection and told me to leave...Just like that...LEAVE!
Now I did nothing to piss this guy off I am alway respectful and professional when I deal with the DOT but he kept getting more and more steamed...Why?
Obviously...He couldn't generate any revenue off of me so he got pissed and got his buddy to come and try and help him get some revenue, When that didn't work he got more pissed and just wanted me out of there!
If it was about safety it wouldn't be like that at all...If it was about safety they would check it out and see that a guy was a safe responsible operator and kept the equipment in compliance and be done with it.
You guys are here for one reason and one reason only and that is to suck as much money out of our pockets as possible to feed the beast that employs you!
If you happen to get some unsafe trucks fixed in the process...Good for you but that is a secondary consideration to the real reason for your existence...REVENUE GENERATION!outerspacehillbilly, kajidono, JustSonny and 1 other person Thank this. -
I have been reading several carriers SEA vehicle scores lately. I have noticed a pattern with every carrier I have looked at, all in a certain state, at a certain fixed location. These violations are almost never seen in any other state, even Ca. I will post a portion of an inspection, and you can do your own investigation as to if this paticular violation is an easy cash cow that a driver can not question, for the offending parts are under the truck where he can't get to.
Here is just one ARIZONA fixed site inspection, out of hundreds I have found for the same thing:
Sounds bad doesn't it, but I have been written up in the past for surface rub marks on the hose from it hitting the trailer and catwalk, with no wear whatsoever.
This reminds me of Georgia in the 70s, when the legnth law was 55'. They would open a portable inspection in the rest area at Carnesville, and pull out the measuring tape. Now tell me how easy it is to run a 45' trailer and a tandem tractor and stay 55' or below.
I was checked, sure enough 55'10" I was a danger to the road to the tune of $50.00.. They had two passenger vans running back and forth to the court house and back. It was before noon, and already over three pages in a ledger were full of names that had been charged that day.
Now here is the kicker. I did not have the correct permits, what I did have did not even match the serial number for my truck. I had a regulated commodity on my truck, of which I had no authority to pull. I had no log book, none. I had a flat tire on the trailer they could see plain as day, no park brakes, and to top it off I was 20 years old, and not legal to drive OTR.
None of that mattered, as I was not checked for those things. I was guilty of traveling through their state at the dangerous length of 10" over the limit.Last edited: Apr 18, 2010
JustSonny and outerspacehillbilly Thank this. -
One would think if it was truly about SAFETY, they would have congratulated or at least complimented your professionalism, certainly should not have been angry or disappointed with you for not finding any defects. Seems to me like those officers have forgotten the reason for their job. The goal should be having SAFE TRUCKS AND SAFE DRIVERS on the highway, not seeing HOW MUCH MONEY THEY CAN STEAL from some poor schmuck! !!
-
I've never run into anything but a polite and professional DOT/Inspector or state trooper. Just my two cents. I'm sure the stupid ones are out there.. They've just missed me.
-
They have not forgotten the reason that they're out there...They know it's about revenue and not about safety and they hate wasting their time with guy's they can't steal from!
They wonder why they're generally not trusted or givin the respect they think they deserve...But they forget that, Respect is Earned, Not Given!outerspacehillbilly Thanks this.
