One of the complaints I have about the company I drive for now is they've left me stranded "Because the freight in your area has cheap rates." I said, "I'm not sitting here until freight rates go back up." Eventually they HAVE to take something to keep me moving or I'll leave the key on the seat. I can't afford to sit while they hope and pray for some good paying freight.

what about the 09 t660 with scangauge plugged in to port?

I'll never know how the 18 was plugged in. I don't even know where the box was located. It wasn't in plain sight.

Your ELD button thingy goes into the round end; it replaces the diagnostic port on the truck. The rectangular end goes into the whatchamacallit behind the fuse cover at the driver's left foot in a KW. The whatchamacallit is a splice into the truck's harness that gives access to the ECM of the truck but does not allow direct access to ALL ECM functions like the diagnostic port does. The whatchamacallit is designed to protect the trucks operating functions from external hookups, call it an indirect connection. The diagnostic port is like a direct link.

In my truck, the ELD interferes with the pressure sensor reading for the brake system if plugged directly into the diagnostic port.

Here we go again with the age old advice that doesn’t have a good answer .what is cheap freight? Like your $.70 a mile so is $.71 good.where’s the imaginary line at between good and cheap.there are many different things to look at .where is the truck at ,what kind of equipment do you have how many trucks with the same equipment is in the area compared to freight available. If you can’t sale your services so you go lease to a carrier or your only option is running of a load board you loose the ability to set your freight rate.Again just being a good driver doesn’t equate being a good business person. It always comes down to finding a need and being able to be a good salesperson .You don’t get to be successful just because you bought a truck you should have been aware of the so called cheap freight before you even bought a truck it’s been going on forever

The solutions are require hourly pay and overtime for drivers, clearly define "independent contractor to combat misclassification, bring back the ICC or something similar to set freight rates then end the driver mills and make truck driving a 4 year apprenticeship like plumbing or electrical work.

$2.50 per mile is the minimum. Then if you're going to start a business don't go into an oversaturated industry with high overhead. Buy a laundry mat or something. However if you are going to jump into a hyper competitive race to the bottom then realize that the low prices wouldn't exist if there wasn't people willing to accept them.
