The Cowboy Trail is nice. It’s the north part of the loop that I have to figure out resupply points and where to camp. I want to stay off pavement as much as possible so you end up missing some of the small towns.

Your proposed trip takes place largely in Cherry, Brown, Rock and Holt counties in Nebraska.
For reference, I have used Cherry County as an example to people from the east coast not familiar with such things to explain the nothingness out there.
Been through there a few times. Love it out there.
Some statistics:
Area of NJ: 7354 sq. miles
Area of Cherry County: 6010 sq. miles
Population of NJ: 9,200,000 density 1251 per sq. mile (most densely populated state in the US)
Population of Cherry County :5492 (of which 2631 live in Valentine)
Density rest of county outside Valentine: 1 person for every 2 square miles.
I know you are very experienced in these types of surroundings. For the rest of us, this just gives them a little idea of where you might travel.
I wish you the absolute best. -
I love the desolate places. Hwy 50 across Nevada was a great drive, so i would like to ride it someday
Studebaker Hawk Thanks this. -
Mostly gravel roads. West of Springview there’s a sand/gravel road that runs along close to the Niobrara River toward Valentine. It should be fun. Towns should be a day or a little more apart. And there are Wildlife Management Areas that should have primitive camping. Once I get things sorted more and add them onto the route I will post an updated map.Studebaker Hawk and cuzzin it Thank this.

Last summer when I did a small loop from Norden Bridge west to Valentine, then rode the Cowboy Trail to Johnstown and cut back north toward Norden. If you saw a vehicle at all it was a 5 minute visit with the driver.Big Road Skateboard, Studebaker Hawk and cuzzin it Thank this.

I know it'll be a boom for the local economy. I think it'll be pretty neat and will definitely hit it up pretty often.
On the flip side, I love to just be in those woods alone, and our weather makes winter prime time for outdoor activities. It's for everyone though, I'm just a bit selfish, and glad those woods aren't my backyard.FloridaRetired and ducnut Thank this.
