Not a bad ride, I have to get used to a 10 speed but wont take to long. it has some stuff that i wished the pete had and vice versa. All in all i could have gotten worse.
Well as you all Know 1Bad and i got to hang out and it was nice to see him again, panhandle i will be in houston on wed my 1st drop got cancelled so no drop in louisianna for me just a straight shot to houston to close out a 3200 mi week. wow i had not seen one of them in a long time.
So Far i have been happy with the new company and i am loving being back on paper. with all companies they have their good and bad and as long as the miles keep comming i will be satisfied and who knows i might even try for my own truck again and i am even considering it being a prostar but i will wait for a few years before trying that again. I was miserable with Central and they were sucking my love for trucking right out of me. Jess could tell you that for a while i didn't even want to drive again. i guess the time off rejuvanated me and the love is back. My company so far has been good not over complicating things but i still need to get used to the macros and you got to love an orientation class of three. I don't feel micro managed here just managed. The great thing is that my company pulls navajo trailers but we only have 125 power units so not a lot of fighting for freight and they want you to run they expect a minimum of 10,000 miles or more out of you a month, so we will see if its true but if i keep up my current pace it might be around 12,000. I could also tell that Navajo has more Accounts than Central. We even do Coors.
I used to Train for Central up until i left because of the miles and all my students learned to do everything thats required to do your job from me before they even got off my truck. The problem with the training dept is that they keep letting the sub standard trainers keep training and the good ones left trying to get students just because they have seniority. I believe getting a student should have been based on your performance and ability to train and train right, not how many years you worked for the company. My Self and my trainer no longer work for the company and Paul was one of the best. There are still a few good ones at central, 6PAK is one of them. Only having a few though will not fix the problem. The training Dept needs to have personal who know how to effectively train students and evaluate them and screen applicants based on certian criteria as a part of the application process by weeding them out during the schooling process. Until they do find people who really know about running a training dept and quit hiring family members or buddies the situation will never change. Even though i don't train anymore i still try and help out my fellow drivers because that is what us professional drivers do. be safe and hope to see ya all out on the big road JJRanch.Last edited: Apr 19, 2010
truckerdaddy24 Thanks this. -
Yea he got back into trucking because I knew he still loved to drive!! So I kept pushing companies at him
As you can tell reading his post, he is happy driving and knowing that he will get a pay at the end of the week.
At Central as a L/O you never knew what your pay was going to like until you logged on and then tried to work out how you were going to pay your bills with $200.00 or less
bigrigtruckdriver Thanks this. -
Well, I have been with a lot of companies in my career, and I find them pretty much the same. You can actually make more money moving from company to company, LOL> Just kidding, although I have moved a lot like a lot of truckers. I started in trucking as a O/O years and years ago, even did training until I got a student with the DT's. Lots of reason for moving on. I wish you both the best of luck, and all life has to offer.
When my wonderful wife and I were younger it was a great adventure, for us in some ways a never ending honeymoon. We are older now, and it is harder, and it has aged us, but our love and adventurous side is still there. Have fun with it, and get out of the truck when it starts to get on your nerves. BE SAFE AND PROFESSIONAL. -
Hi JJ, so good to read a bit of lifted spirit in your words here. We have a Prostar and Bob had the conversion kit installed so it's now a 13 speed. He wouldn't have been pleased with the 10speed with the hill climbs and mpg. I just have to say "Amen" to what you said regarding trainers/training, we had an instance when we were at the WVC yard and while we were getting back in the truck a student who just got off his trainers truck and stocking his new ride was just getting ready to head out and he came over to us and asked Bob how to use the Qualcomm to log on, AND go over the important macros. I have less patience and tolerance when it comes to many things....and that's because i had to run an office back home that had many, many problems to solve and men to keep track of so i have a heart of stone and sometimes a no-nonsense tolerance for lack of common sense so if i was driving this truck i would have turned in the keys already.....he is hanging on and giving his best. my biggest issues are that too many mouths are involved in each load and they don't communicate with each other so we have the constant annoying beep of questions and unneeded distractions....go figure. why even put the sticker on the qualcomm: "plz do not operate while driving"....ha!! any how, hanging in there and trying to keep a sense of humor about it.
whoa...i am going on....take care JJ, hope to see ya out here AND with Jess, soon !!! -
Well the 10 speed i have in this truck will out pull my old pete up a hill, the RPMs dont drop as much even pulling a grossed out load in Wy i was gaining fuel milage. when i got the truck it was at 6.2 by the time i hit the border at pine bluffs i was at 6.9 hauling onions. Now i am at 7.1 its giving me a new appreciation for the prostar. You cant access my quall comm while the truck is moving, i have to stop whenever the lady with the bird trapped in my speaker says i have a new message. if its really important they will call me. well take care and hopefully soon jess and I will meet up with you and bob out on the big road. Ya know, sometimes I wonder if I'm working for the same company as some of y'all are. Maybe because apparently I'm not having the same issues. Most likely it is FM related. The only time I've ever been bugged about the status of a load is when they thought I was running late, or when repowering wondering where I was stopping. I believe the only time I've been unhappy was when my FM was on medical leave. I scrutinize my pay statements and there is nothing that shouldn't be there and discuss my reviews with my FM. Heck, I even will gladly help another driver who asks or appears to be in need of assistance.
Anyway... in the Atlanta area for at least the day. Bumping against my 70 and haven't decided if I need a 34 or not. Guess that will depend on what gets thrown my way when I communicate with my FM in the morning.
I've come to love the prostar. It pulls the hills pretty good and likes a heavy load, and is lots more comfortable than the w9 was. Averaging 7.5 over the last month with the 9 speed.trucker900 Thanks this. -
Heading for PA, with a load, and then the beginning of the week normal 2000 mile run. Having trouble sleeping tonight, but after I have this snack will try again. Hope everyone is tucked in for the night and safe. See you all out on the road. Another day another dollar.

I have to agree with bootlegger your FM can make you or break you, a good one will scan your presets before sending them to you and work out if you have enough hours to do them before he sends them.
Or will see if the load has a problem, and work on a solution before you even get it.
My last FM was that guy. Sometimes he would send me a message and say I have 2 loads, xxxx miles for each, which way do you want to go. Or he would say after I chose the load I wanted he, he would say that there is nothing after that trip, so I might end up sitting, but if I took the other one there was freight. Sometimes I would take the load that would have a sit on it just for a break.
Then they added 45 trucks to his fleet. So he was having to run a fleet and a half. More loads would come directly from the planners, things would get screwed up. Trips would start to overlap, live loads to be picked up before the delivery of the current load, having me bobtail to facilities with no trailers for live loads, loads I didn't have the hours to run, delivery appointments at the wrong locations.
Some of the problems I would catch ahead before I mac 11'd the load, but when you really only have a few minutes to look at load, before they start bugging the #### out of you to mac 11 it, sometimes I wouldn't catch all the problems. UHG!!!
Plus I am pretty sure one of the planners Derrick hated me, because I would ALWAYS have problems with the loads he sent me, and he would call me on the phone when I would sent a mac 1 to with my issues with the load. I flat told him to respond to me on the qualcomn and I would hang up on him.
Oh the joys, glad I don't have to worry about that crap anymorebiermann58 and Bootlegger66 Thank this. -
At the Petro instead of the CDF for a 34. So much nicer with all the amenities around.
