The Navistar/ Iron Tiger/ Truck Movers/ any ole body with a pulse 'experiment' just started at the first of the year. JHT Holdings ATT division handled this account up to then. By all reports, the 'experiment' is failing. The Iron Tiger/ Mack/ Volvo 'experiment' is succeeding in the sense they have had very low shipping volumes. The Navistar and Volvo/Mack accounts were handled by JHT's Active division until a few years back. The Active employees were represented by the IBT (Teamsters); JHT merely closed the Active shops one day and reopened them as ATT shops (IAM represented) the next day with the resulting decrease in pay, benefits, etc.

Same thing again; JHT closes the ATT shops one day and reopens them as Iron Tiger shops the next day. Although Iron Tiger employees are still 'represented' (company imposed) by the IAM (Machinists); they are working under the pathetic 'give back contract' demanded by JHT prior to bankruptcy in 2007. Keep in mind that JHT Holdings only competes with itself so the 'bankruptcy' was just 'posturing' on the company's part - many contractors/ service providers got ripped off big time as a result. Most think JHT owner Dennis Troha looted JHT to finance his failing casino businesses, thus forcing the bankruptcy.

Keep in mind the worst kept secret is that JHT bought out Truck Movers right after coming out of bankruptcy in 2008. The 'below the radar' transaction is disguised as an 'operating agreement' so as to keep from going back to federal court over the 'double breasting' issue and probable monopolistic trade practices. JHT still owns the entire new truck haul driveaway segment as a result.

Unions ruined what? You've been getting real, truthful feedback from a number of contributors to this thread. I'm guessing you're still looking for that 'our company is non union and we are fat and happy' thread. I'll create one if you'd like.

 

ruined the auto industry ask anyone from detriot the airlines. unions always want to strike therefore prices go up on consumers. employers are forced to outsource jobs overseas. unions are suppose to protect the workers but like anything else they get greedy and try to pinch every penny out of the employer. as far as i am concerned they do the same thing the ceos do the only difference is ceo of companies actually worked to be where they are at. so you are telling me that truckmovers is owned by jht. i should soon find out.

 

Tell us a bit about yourself. Education? Work history? Training? Blaming the labor movement for America's ills is a sure sign of ignorance. If you ask someone at TM or IT if they are 'owned' by JHT they may tell you 'no' as expected? The people who worked for ATT and rolled over to IT during the 'transition' and promptly quit will tell you 'yes'.

Ask anyone still working for ATT who witnessed the 'transition' up close and they will tell you it was identical to the Active - ATT 'transition' as the very same people have been involved all of the way through. We know the deal. Go ahead and sign up with TM/ IT - you will 'achieve your wildest dreams' just as promised!!! Tell'em I sent'cha!

 

I worked for Iron Tiger out of Springfield,Ohio before I was fired. Knowing what I know now,I would have gone straight to Truckmovers and here's why. Being Independent with no forced dispatch gives a little more hometime. Also,once I learned to undeck the trucks,the job was easy. It's my understanding to haul 4-ways out of sSpringfield,Truckmovers pay $1.60 a mile and $1.30 per gallon fuel surcharge. $65 to undeck and airfare home. The Truckmovers drivers get the long trips. A 2000 mile trip,to say Ehrenberg,Arz,Which is a client pays $3200. It takes about 400 gallons to go that far,so at $1.30 per gallon,that's and additional $520 bringing us too..$3720 + $65 to undeck = $3785. ok..now subtract $100 for tolls and NM permit=$3685. At $125 a day in food and hotels for 4 days(with corporate lodging card) that's $500=$3185. 400 gallons of fuel at $3 a gallon = $1200 which equals $1985. add in a few miscelaneus charges(cab ride and baggage fee's) and $1500 bring home as a 1099 contractor.They pay airfare home. Not a bad deal for 4 days. Sure wish I went to Truckmovers first,but kinda burned that bridge.

 

If what you're stating is true it's a 'good deal' if you overlook the fact you have no benefits or professional representation to back you up. A great bargain for $51.25 per month.

Every ITL driver I've spoken with on the road is 'about to quit' and the ones who came back to ATT after quiting or getting fired have 'stories' although I doubt a few I've heard.

Do you mind telling us why you were 'fired'?

 

I was fired cause I ran over the gate/fence at the yard. Bent it completey over.lol. Sounds worse than it was. Plus,I was brand new to undecking and piggybacking and had a few issues with the lifestyle. Had some bad luck. Had an allergic reaction to the bed I slept in,broke out in hives all over my body and had to go to ER. Another time,had a back issue because of the crappy trucks and had to go to the ER. Had my share of bad luck fo sho.lol

 

I have done this kind of work in years past. I am not familiar with the companies mentioned but they are all about alike. It looks like you could make decent money doing this but you can't. The devil is in the details. $.70 cents a mile sounds pretty good til you learn that you have to buy the fuel. Then you learn that they will almost always drain the tanks before they give you the truck. Then you learn that you have to get back at your on expense with no pay to get the next trip. That is the one that breaks you. Plus they nickel and dime you to death. Oh the man was right. I did this about 20 years ago and they were paying $.65 a mile then

No doubt. The best thing that could happen is the employees of ATT and the ITL subsidiaries of JHT Holdings ask the IBT to represent them over the lackadasical IAM. Quota Hire Andersen and Co. rolled over for ATT/JHT management again!

I'm being told the rank and file voted to return to the previous contract pay levels(?) - I missed the vote as I was on a trip. JHT Holdings would shut down if the IBT returned to represent the employees; Troha would probably step in front of a speeding train! Something big is gonna happen alright...
