Was a trucker from age 22-24 and a half doing OTR dry van and reefer work, just renewed the CDL license with Classic Traffic School in Fort Myers. Applied for OTR jobs got picked up by SUPEREGO holding out or Chicago so they sent me to their terminal in Jacksonville FL. I have a few questions it seems this is the position I got so called Lease to Purchase, they gave me a nice International Tractor and a Trailer. The dispatch I got for the fist day on the job seems like there are still working on getting me my first load. They also said it is a walk-away-whenever lease to purchase program. I once again never did a Lease to Purchase. What are your initial thoughts on what exactly am I dealing with. Should I be getting my own loads? Do I even need a dispatch? Sounds like I might as well apply for carriers as basically as an owner operator. Or am I still basically closer a company driver at this point. Looks like I might have a dispatch assigned to me with the SUPEREGO holding company. Any thoughts?????

Yeah, you're about to be screwed.

You are being classified as an Independent Contractor (responsible for tractor maintenance costs, fuel, and tax implications) while being treated as an employee. This will not end well.

    Look at Windy Hill.

I'm thinking you are over your head, not because you are inferior, but because most L-P agreements that first-timers walk into are bad. You are legally obligated to pay all costs in the lease but the company IS NOT obligated to give you enough work to pay those costs.

Read the reviews on SuperEgo, not just from SuperEgo, like on this forum & Google or Indeed.

If the company provides truck, trailer, finds the loads you are not independent contractor except in the mind of the company. In that circumstance the company is misclassifying an employee which saves them $$ for taxes. The IRS will find you and you'll pay those taxes or else.

    Thoughts…

You are paying money to work at that company. You are paying for the truck, the maintenance and fuel. You pay for everything but own nothing. Barring any breakdowns, you will make about the same as a company driver. So why not just be a company driver?

So you’ve gone all of the way through starting the job, orientation, truck selection, and you’re still unsure of what you’re doing ? Probably should have figured that part out before you left the house.
