If you have a CARB sticker for the engine you can idle. APU’s must also must have a DPF filter

    nextgentrucker and drvrtech77 Thank this.

With the clean idle stickers on your truck you’re allowed to idle in California

Cool, didn't know, I thought California was worse than that LOL...

It's still stupid that they don't have APU's on their trucks. The amount of engine hours these trucks get is insane. Not to mention the fuel cost.

All that idling takes its toll on the DPF also.

I have been to a few customers that don't allow idling and will actually tell you to switch off the engine. An APU would be welcome then.

That's why Indian River has them cleaned every 6000 hours (at least I think so). All I know is my truck had it done at about 150k miles or so. I guess it works for them because they have their own kiln for baking the DPF's and it probably paid for itself a long time ago. At this point it just costs them electricity/gas (idk how those things are powered lol) and a few hours downtime for the truck.

To my knowledge mine hasn't been cleaned in nearly 300K. I noticed it doing regens more often and for longer durations so I am sure I am due for some work on it.

It's based on engine hours. I always used to idle the truck non stop so unless you're like me you might have lower hours. Lately I got tired of the rattling truck and started turning it off if it was cool enough outside.

Edit: before anyone tries to tell me to bump up the idle, I know. It doesn't help. Every time I mention the rattling, drivers tell me to bump up the idle lol

You should bump up the idle.
