When certain places are like that, unless they have a lounge to sit in, especially during summer months, i tell them same thing i would tell a trucking company..go
Home and turn your a/c off and then I will too.Speed_Drums and nextgentrucker Thank this. -
I don’t know this to be a fact, but I think certain municipalities require businesses to post signs about idling, similar to the way sales tax permits have to be displayed on the wall at places. I’ve seen them at truck stops in parts of Pennsylvania. It’s most likely a business requirement, not the actual owner or management of the facility trying to enforce or care about the idle laws.nextgentrucker Thanks this.

If it’s your cabinetry, you might try wedging a small hand towel behind it. I crammed one between my clothes closet and the pillar/wall that divides the sleeper from the front cab. It applies enough pressure to stop the rattling in mine. I also tightened the battery box latch a while back. It had came loose and was getting annoying.nextgentrucker Thanks this.

I've got a question for you guys, for new drivers at IRT, do we get a trainer to train us on how to do things or do we just get thrown to the wolves and hope we make it lol.
-
Well, it's not gonna be a problem anymore. I have decided to go work for Caledonia Haulers, for many reasons. And no, it's not because of the rattling truck lol. As I've said before, I can't stand pulling smooth bores with an automatic. So the manual transmissions were the first thing that caught my attention, but that's not all. Not only is the mileage pay higher but the pay structure in general is better. I won't go into full detail on here since this thread is dedicated to IRT but an example would be getting paid for a live wash - something IRT does not do. Plus they have APU's - that's another big reason for me to switch.
Overall my experience with Indian River wasn't too bad, but they're not my favorite trucking company. I don't want that to deter anyone though. Everything said by Tanker_82, Redtwin, and all the other long time Indian River drivers who have posted here is true. IRT has its pros and cons, but sometimes one man's con is another man's pro. APU's being a good example. Some drivers just don't like em. So while it may not be the company for me, it could be for someone else. I'll probably be making my own thread for Caledonia Haulers after I've been there for a couple months and I can see if the grass is truly greener like it seems. Thanks @Tanker_82 for creating this thread and updating it for so long. Everything was accurate and I don't feel like anything was not what I expected at this company.CalculatedRisk, Speed_Drums, motocross25 and 6 others Thank this. -
I hate to hear you’re leaving us, Cobra. I could tell through your posts that you were a seasoned driver with a good attitude, and you always had good input to the thread. There’s nothing wrong with doing what you feel is best for yourself. I hope everything works out, and I’m sure you will be welcome back if it doesn’t.motocross25, Redtwin and Cobrawastaken Thank this.

To be honest, I’m not sure. When I hired on, I was given a road test and sent out on my own. Keep in mind, that was 8 years ago as of next month. I do know we have trainers now, but I’m not sure if it’s for new hires in general, or just for the pump truck side of the fleet. Even if you get sent out solo from day one, none of our dispatchers will force you to do anything you’re uncomfortable with if you speak up and bring it to their attention. I’m referring to mountain zones with common chain control and things of that nature when I say that. I wouldn’t worry or be intimidated by it.Speed_Drums, motocross25 and nextgentrucker Thank this.
