CAT will split weigh a spread but I don’t believe they’ll certify a split weigh though. You said you weighed with spread closed up so maybe they’ll do something.

No. I weighed with my axles split. But I just did gross weight. I didn’t do the whole call in and tell them first weight split axle and then have them weigh scales 1 and 2 then move up and have them weigh 2 and 3 scales

Misunderstood. They’ll certify a spread for gross weight but won’t certify the split weigh as I read there disclaimer so there’s still the issue of why the gross is off 1.5 tons
As Ricky used to say to Lucy…..they've “got some ‘splainen to do!”

Who knows might get lucky. I can’t see myself being able to explain to the court airbags, suspension dump etc. I will call the court and ask for some type of reduction if at all possible and then hope that Cat will send me something thought that’s a hard sell. I just wish DOT would have consider that it might be a mechanical issue or at the least give us drivers some slack especially when we actually scale a load and are way below gross and the discrepancy of the industry standard scale (CAT) and there scale. Whole situation sucks.

I remember some of the guys that ran steel around where I’m from and they had auxiliary air reservoirs the size of propane tanks . They were multi axle set ups and they put those dump valves and reservoirs to good use on the toll road getting those good paying loads to and fro

Buy a buzzer and splice it into your dump valve switch. When the bags are deflated the buzzing noise will remind you to flip the switch up... They are cheap online.

This is it. Some are a buzzer others are a beep but serve the same purpose to remind you...As you can see very cheap... Just splices into the switch...

Call the courthouse for the county the ticket was issued in. Lots of times the county clerk is the same as the judge. Many of them will reduce it to $100 and close it out for you.

BTW, new people considering flatbed, this thread is a perfect example why some thrive in open deck and others hate it. The people who thrive in skateboarding are the ones who like to think and problem solve. If you are the type who only wants to drive and not have to figure things out, open deck isn’t for you.

    Let this be a lesson.

If you're bouncing around. Truck or trailer. Check your suspension inflation. Course. The truck will make transmission noises too when it's not pumped up.

As for fines. States don't generally lower them. Moving violations can be amended to something as to not reflect on driving record but the fine still stands.

As for variance between scales. Some like to be D's and will lie about the numbers. Colorado did the same thing to me hauling cars. I burned up 400 pounds of fuel yet somehow I was 1000 pounds over. They didn't give me a ticket though. When I got to the delivery. I was 1000 pounds lighter then when I picked up the load.

    Colorado was wrong.
