Hi,
It's a new company that I started.. and to start off, it's a Canadian company, got two trucks and trailers, things are very tough right now and rates are crappy, my question is why are canadian brokers abuse new companies and offer them crappy rates and won't go up??? It's very frustrating since I can only work Canada U.S. cross borders.

Where are you located? Freight volume is picking up - so it should not be bad....

Just wondering how bad at the rates coast to coast in Canada only? This thread was original created before Amazon Relay was in Canada and before covid destroyed rates on the spot market. Anyone running, Ontario to to Alberta or even BC? Or Ontario to QC, NB, NS & PE? Is it reasonable at all as for rates?

I think rates east are still crap, the larger east coast companies gobble up all the freight and are slashing and bashing each other i to the ground. Not much room for a small or independant o/o to do anything other than sign on to a carrier contract.
I took a local container gig almost 2 years ago, it's not great money but it is pretty consistent, and I'm home every weekend. I'd like to get back to deck work but some friends are barely making it and sitting a lot waiting to get reloaded back east. I'm gonna stay where I am. My truck is paid for and still working great, older glider so cheap to maintain. About all that's keeping me from selling really. -
Good point. However, you have to watch those contracts especially certain ones they're giving out. Some of these Brokers say one thing but are extremely cunning with a deceptive agenda. Nearly giving overweight loads ruining a O/o's equipment faster then trying to keep the truck locally on mileage pay. No thanks. I'm running Toronto to Montreal because it still paying but barely. Most are hoping the rates get back to well over $2/mile.Elroythekid Thanks this.

The rates on thebstore deliveries I'm doing sucks but the extras for wait time, drops, layovers for sleeping at the customer etc make a big difference.NorthEastTrucker Thanks this.
