Can anyone tell me how much time out on the road Gordon drivers average. I realize it depends on location, but to be out 3-4 weeks w only 3-4 days off has been a killer for me. I love to drive but have little support at home to be gone 3-4 weeks, do they do 7-10 or 10-14. Thanks ~Liteguy

It depends on where you're at and you only get 1 day off for 1 week on the road. Gti is really busy and they will keep you busy so in order for you to get time off, you need to put in a request on the qualcomm. I always stayed out 2 weeks and then started to do 3 weeks. It always cut into my paychecks when I came home every 2. Even though you have put in for a couple days off, sometimes they can't get you home exactly when you want..it depends on the loads they have..Hope this helps..

Liteguy, If you don't have the support at home for a driving OTR career you may need to reconsider your options. Nicnat is correct about GTI and probably most companies. You need the time out to get the miles. Drivers that want to go 1 week for 1 day off end up with shorter runs, bump more docks, and run fewer miles. 2 weeks for 2 days get more, but, if you want the 2500/3000 miles you need to run 3/4 weeks. I stay out 31 days to get 5 days off. That works for me but ceatainly not for every one.nicnat2 Thanks this. -
Thanks Yatista, I realize what you are saying and I may have to wait a while, but I thought that there were a few Co's. that did a 10-14 out w/ 3 off. I'm can do 14 days out but 3-4 weeks is tough for the home life, especially the kid's but I'll keep trying to find something.
Nicnat2, you say you stayed out 2 weeks and went to 3 weeks, was that a company thing or personal to go out that extra week? Maybe I could do a soft start,[keep the wife happy]
then gradually go to 3. Thanks for the input from both of you~Liteguy

It was a personal choice..Yatista is correct too..you have to have the support at home 1st..trust me,it will be bad if you leave and only get worse once you're gone. I was getting low miles and decided to stretch it out a little and see if they improved..A lot of times I came thru Vegas and got to spend a nite at home and then hit the road the next morning..that sure helped but wasn't guaranteed. Just remember, a company always wants you on the road and not sitting at home...

Lite, you have it backwards. Most of the time you have to get the experiance first and then get with a company that does local or the short trips to stay close to home. If you are worried of problems it might cause with your family, then run far away from the field of freight. Its a 24/7/365 schedule.nicnat2 Thanks this.
