Exactly. The audio cutting out distracts me when I'm trying to concentrate on backing.
My 2023 Pete does the same thing. And it displays a message in the digital instrument cluster saying "reverse mute."
I tried unmuting it before I let the clutch out, but it auto-mutes again as soon as the truck starts rolling.

I stumbled upon a workaround today for the Western Star and probably the Freightliners. If you hold the steering wheel volume up button for a second or two after it goes into reverse mute, the sound will return even though the radio stills says Reverse Mute.
Also, anytime you hold the volume down button on the steering wheel, it will put the radio into mute. I'll need to double check and see if it pauses the song or podcast.D.Tibbitt, upnorthwpg and tscottme Thank this. -

Glad it worked for you too!
I also was able to verify that holding the Volume Down button, while putting the stereo in mute, it does not pause USB playback.tscottme Thanks this. -
Holding the pedal at 900 rpm disables the shutdown as well.

The biggest problem with reverse mute is if you are playing something other than music , because it mutes but doesn't pause
