Thanks for all the info you've posted Brian. If it means anything, this thread made a sale for Cobra. I was going to go with the Garmin, mostly because of the traffic alerts and advance lane notifications, but after viewing this thread and looking more into the Cobra, I decided on the 7700. My little Tom-Tom One XL finally bit the dust. It was a nice little unit, but no longer receives a signal. Thought I'd pay the extra $$$ and get something a little more geared towards trucking....seeing as though I will be using it every single day. Got it for $399 at TA and just opened it about an hour ago.
One quick thing I've noticed already though. When I click on POI's and then click "Near Current Location" I can't get anything to come up. If I click on "Along Route" I get all sorts of results. But I can't figure out why I'm not getting anything near my current location? Could be my error since I just got the thing, but I'm a bit confused on this. I don't want to exchange it until I know for sure it isn't my own error.

now..if you could just tell me how to spend the 400 with out getting yelled at by the wife.
Wife: "what's wrong with yer atlas? What's wrong with the other one? blah, blah, blah"
and people wonder why I became a trucker -
I purchased the 7700 and does a good job. One thing that i have noticed is that the eta time is off. I have updated the gps with the newest update but this did not correct this problem. But i did notice that one thing? I live in the cst and am unloading the est. My eta is off by one hour. example, i have 60 miles left to drive and the time is 4pm cst. It shows that i have 1 hour left, but my eta time is 6pm. Another question is i noticed that it does not show weigh stations? Are they in here and i am missing something?
Thank you.

The glitch is related to the "kingpin to last axle" length in your truck setup. We are working on a software update to fix it. For now, please change the "kingpin to last axle" length to 38 feet and then all will be well.

Quick question....Is there anyway to show an actual compass instead of it just showing N for north, E for east, etc? Is there anyway to have a compass with a pointing arrow? Nit picking, I know. But that's one thing my last GPS had that I miss.
Today I was going to a pick-up location and the Cobra said I was on a 5-ton weight limit road and kept trying to route me off of it. Problem is, the road I was on wasn't weight restricted! I know it's not always going to be 100% accurate, and I don't expect that. But on day one? Eesh. Going to try it out for a couple more weeks and if it keeps doing things like that, it will be returned. For $400 I'm hoping it is at least 90% reliable! -
OK back from 2 weeks with the Cobra. It has been frustrating in many ways. Many shippers and consignees have no sign or addresses that are easliy readable from the road. Especially at night.
I was going to pick up at a shipper in South Charleston. It showed over 9 miles to go. I noticed the street name on an exit sign. It was trying to route me out of town! In the Cobra's defense I have a friend with PC miler on his laptop. He had the same problem with that location.
On a minimum of 2 occasions it took my past the consignee 1/8 to a 1/4 mile. Hanover MD and in WV.
When going to the Nissan parts depot in NJ it tried to tell me the place was on the left, it was really on the right. It may have been a typographical error on my load info from Swift.
In Williamsburg VA I was going to Annehauser Busch for a load of beer. It routed me into town twice! When I got off the exit it told me to go left. It should have been right! I had to go through town and turn around in front of an army base guard shack.
Was delivering that beer to Pulaski VA. It tried to route me 1 street past where I needed to turn. Luckily I could see their trucks from the highway.
I was in PA and didn't follow the directions. I turned the wrong way and went into the town. It routed me to turn around. It dropped me on a 5 ton limit street!
The Walmart DC in Grove City OH is another case. It routed me right past the place (heavy fog.) Took me into a residential neighborhood that thankfully had a route straight through to a traffic light.
I am going to install my update today or tomorrow. Is there weigh station info on that update?
I would really like to see speed limit info to be displayed like the Garmin does. Many states don't post signs very often like when you first enter the highway.
I did talk to one of your people on the help line. Very smug. Maybe it is because I caught him first thing in the morning.
I asked about the speed limit signs and traffic conditions like the Garmin has. I was told you weren't going to offer it. Something about having to subscribe to a service?
The Garmin actually warned us 60 miles or better on traffic conditions (nasty accident) in New Mexico that was on the East side of Las Cruces. Also tried to route me around weekend construction in San Antonio.
I delivered to a Walmart DC in Hopkinsville KY from Memphis. It was set on the fastest routing. It added over a hundred miles to the trip. I caught it and changed it to the shortest route. It routed me close to what the company Maptuit instructions had. I would have got there sooner and got in trouble for my out of route miles. I compared the miles the company said (Rand Mcnally) and investigated. Same trip it also had me turn right when I knew better in Paris TN. It listed Hwy 79 as 76 periodically.
Tell me why does it show 60 miles ahead on an interstate a turn? Just a curve in the road it announces. No exit yet it announces the curve. What's up with that?
If I gave specific addresses of places it screws up would that help?
I'll be checking in when I can.
