Exactly. The audio cutting out distracts me when I'm trying to concentrate on backing.
My 2023 Pete does the same thing. And it displays a message in the digital instrument cluster saying "reverse mute."
I tried unmuting it before I let the clutch out, but it auto-mutes again as soon as the truck starts rolling.

The dealer, or anyone with the Davie software, can disable the reverse mute. There is also a Mute option for the seatbelt not on that can be disabledRockinChair and tscottme Thank this.

I stumbled upon a workaround today for the Western Star and probably the Freightliners. If you hold the steering wheel volume up button for a second or two after it goes into reverse mute, the sound will return even though the radio stills says Reverse Mute.
Also, anytime you hold the volume down button on the steering wheel, it will put the radio into mute. I'll need to double check and see if it pauses the song or podcast.D.Tibbitt, upnorthwpg and tscottme Thank this. -
Merry Christmas to you sir! Thanks for posting. It does work on the 2024 freightliner.

Glad it worked for you too!
I also was able to verify that holding the Volume Down button, while putting the stereo in mute, it does not pause USB playback.tscottme Thanks this. -
Holding the pedal at 900 rpm disables the shutdown as well.

The mute button on the steering wheel in a Peterbilt will pause a podcast if your phone is connected to the radio with bluetooth. It won’t if your phone is plugged directly into the radio with a charger.Sirscrapntruckalot Thanks this.

The biggest problem with reverse mute is if you are playing something other than music , because it mutes but doesn't pause
tscottme Thanks this. -
Correct. And if you pause the audio source before backing but you don't back in one uninterrupted and continuous motion the BT connection will activate your stopped audio source and it will play until the next time you check on it. Another "safety feature" that is adding tasks to driving at the exact time it should do nothing. Now you have to manage the reverse mute/audio source and back the trailer. SMHMACK E-6 and hope not dumb twucker Thank this.
