I worked there for about 6 months before they started getting the Freightliners and asked for one since I wanted to see if the Detroit automatic would work better with liquids. At first they said the teams have priority since they're all double bunks. Then I offered to be a trainer, since it could mean extra money for me and I like training new drivers anyway. They said maybe they could make it happen, but I never heard anything. Once I had been there for almost a year, they got in some more Freightliners. I was told some of them might be available and they would "get back to me on that". Never heard anything and honestly it's one of the reasons I decided to leave IRT. That Eaton automatic drove me nuts. Got a manual now at Caledonia Haulers.

Eaton automatics suck. I'm in one now at a small mom and pop, and I don't like it. My biggest complaint, among others, is when I try to back up. There's no creep mode, so you have to be on the throttle, but it doesn't always grab right away, so then I try to feather a little more and then it grabs, but starts hopping and bouncing like you abruptly popped the clutch on a manual.
The Freightliner auto in our Western Star is much better, but still has it's quirks. The best auto is still a Mack or a Volvo.nextgentrucker and 88 Alpha Thank this. -
It's pretty good. Shorter runs than I had at Indian River but less downtime. I have hardly had to sit and wait for a load at all. My checks have been more consistent. Lots of pump loads compared to Indian River but it keeps me off my lazy behind so I consider that a good thing.Speed_Drums and nextgentrucker Thank this.

Nice, I'm hoping I'll make some good money at IRT, that's my biggest thing right now, right now I'm averaging about $1200 take home and I want to double that, I want the miles, no slow trucks and no in-cab camera. If I can find that at IRT then that'd be great.

You’re probably not going to double $1200 a week take home unless you’re working for Walmart or UPS.

Beat me to it. Depending on the individuals deductions, in order to double take home to $2400, you’d have to gross right at $3000. Ain’t happening at any company driver OTR job. I have it pretty good at my gig and the best take home I have is $1990. Then again, just thinking of the miles one would need to drive to take home $2400 is making me nauseous.nextgentrucker, Redtwin and Cobrawastaken Thank this.
