Hello Folks
Kenworth T680 2020 making popping sound while making right and left turns, the sound comes from driver side leaf spring, the same popping sound comes when truck is running ideal and turning the steering with applying padel brakes.
The driver side leaf spring shifting (front side) upwards when steering moves and back to normal when tires straight.
Did new front axle bushings on both sides, new U bolt, U bolt torque at 500 ftp.
There is very little play on driver side kingpin, when right tire is jacked up, no popping sound.
Need help please, don't want to keep spending money blindly.
Thanks for your suggestions

Dry or worn shackle bushings will cause a popping sound.

Did they weld the new pin bushings in? I did mine. Supposed to be press out and press in. No welding required. Well the new bushings would slip inside the spring with a heavy load on.
a couple tack welds on each bushing and no more popping. I even added locktite when they were first installed.IH Truck Guy, Rideandrepair, Big Road Skateboard and 1 other person Thank this. -
Mechanic replaced all 3 bushing, 2 on leaf springs and 1 on hanger. They were slip in bushing, he add grease while inserting.
I don't think so welding the bushing will solve the issue because mine leaf spring shifting upwards and than comes to original position.Rideandrepair Thanks this. -
It's not shifting up and down, it's shifting side to side.
There should be shims to take up any free space between the shackle and spring eye/spring hanger. The popping does not happen because of worn bushings.
BTW, there are no slip in bushings. If they slip in, it's because the spring eye or hanger has worn too far.Luwi67, AModelCat, Rideandrepair and 1 other person Thank this. -
It's shifting up and down, the gap between 2 leaf springs increases, I feel the gap increasing and I did not see any space to add shims.
The bushings were inserted by press machine they are not worn. -
How did you come to this conclusion? By feel, sight?AModelCat Thanks this.

Hopefully they didn't put those rubber bushings in. Back in the mid to late 2000's we converted a bunch of trucks back to the old greasable style threaded pins. The rubber ones just wouldn't hold up.

I put my hand on both leaf springs are feel shifting upwards.

You got long arms if you did that while going around a corner.
I'm not saying you're wrong about your diagnosis (yes I am), but your wrong about your diagnosis.
Your popping noise is not from up and down movement.D.Tibbitt and ElmerFudpucker Thank this.
