Salt Lake and Denver for sure. Old Dominion isn't hiring en-masse to my knowledge, but I know linehaul spots in those two cities open up more frequently than in other places, just because of the winter weather they drive through.

Don’t have a set area. Some days I’ll only do 35 miles. On another route I’ll do 250 miles. Kind of a kick in the butt today. But if I stayed on linehaul I’d be #1 right now on a $2500 + a week run. It would mean nights for the next 20 years. I like the city work I’m just the low man right now since I changed job classifications. Been getting starved out pretty bad lately but I’m gonna try to hang in there before I find another job. All the guys above me are in their 60’s.hotrod1653, MACK E-6, Speedy356 and 1 other person Thank this.

I assume the cryo sector requires one to be free of facial hair?

As you're looking at ltl line haul jobs, investigate how far away are the other hubs/service centers. You'd think Chicago would be a reasonable place to run linehaul, but half the bids are 200-300 miles total and the driver spends 3-4 hours on the dock before heading out, at the turn point, or once returning. Compare that to Columbus - Indy, Cleveland, Toledo/Detroit, Pittsburg are all 300 + with a lot of other options for longer runs. Someplace like Omaha might be harder to get into, but will have longer, easier runs.
Best of luck. -
Or to really add insult to injury, run all night and get back, only to be told to “go hook up to XX door and deliver that sort and segregate load.”gentleroger Thanks this.

Depends on customer base, the only real sticklers are the refinery’s. I’m talking not even stubble! Out of all these years I’ve only had one refinery actually issue me SCUBA to keep with me though while delivering. Like I tell them, well I guess I’ll be clean shaven when you find me dead. Because ain’t no way I’m gonna make it to one of the respirator stations if S*** hits the fan!Last edited: Jan 5, 2025
hotrod1653, gentleroger and MACK E-6 Thank this. -
Well done, drivers. I'm glad to see it.
Back to hauling fuel after 7 years of hauling corrosives. Could have been better, could have been worse. Took a pay cut but the same start time and no layovers with no on call are worth the change of scenery. With a kiddo now, priorities changed and I needed more consistency in my schedule. Minimal station work makes for a pretty laid back day most days. Overall, very pleased with the current situation.
Here's to a better 2025.Attached Files:
