    Hi O/O’s

Are independent dispatcher services something you use nowadays? Or do you guys handle back office things I.e. rate negotiation, book keeping, etc on your own?

    thanks in advance

Always dispatched myself, never saw a need or benefit to outsourcing my dispatch. With margins as tight as they are why on earth would I give away 3=10% of my gross revenue for someone to scan the load boards and click accept load?

Nobody is going to know or understand my needs, abilities and desires better than I am going to. If I wanted to contract out my dispatching I would just lease onto a company and let them control me and my truck, or better yet be an employee driver with all the benefits and none of the responsibility of being an independent owner.

I will never understand why someone would go through all the trouble of obtaining their own authority then hand over control of their destiny to a third party entity to dispatch for them. And if you try to say that dispatch services have access to better loads or "off the board" loads then you are not referring to a legitimate dispatch service, instead they are in illegal broker if they have any access to work that is not through one of the broker or shipper arrangements you as the owner operator have already set up.

Just by the sheer competition and how many of these calls I have to say no thank you to. Just find a different idea. If you have loads become a broker, if you have trucks become a trucking company. If you really want to dispatch hire on to a trucking company as one. Independent dispatchers are considered scammers of the industry. You have to realize, you ask us to outsource the easiest part of the job and we keep the dirty work. If anyone really needs one they will ask their wife or a kid to do it for them, otherwise we (owner operator) 90% of the time were working with dispatchers before as company drivers and moved on not to have to deal with it anymore. It’s mind boggling to me how this is somehow pushed as a good business idea.

I handle my own stuff. I can imagine a value for this service back in the day, but with smartphones, literally all the day to day can be done while you're trucking.

The Majority of Brokers want Carriers to take loads for less than $2 cpm. Most times, they'll agree for more when placing a bid once they can't get someone to do it for under $2 per mile. Common sense knows that one hand can't clap by its self unless on the shoulder so with some Dispatch Services offering smaller percentages like 3% and 5%. Especially in an over capacity spot market. Two minds hustling for Freight is better.
