When hubby first started OTR I bought a combo dector and put it in the truck with him....after all it is his "home" and after hearing him describe a cab fire that he saw in a truck stop I just thought it was a good idea, he of course thinks I worry toooo much.

Died of carbon monoxide poisoning while using a "propane heater in the truck to keep warm". So in order to save a few bucks for his company and to appease some environmentalists, this guy died.

Pretty soon we will start getting the stories of drivers dying from heat stroke in states like Texas that won't let you idle to get your mandated rest no matter how hot it is outside.

Whatever happened to common sense?:biggrin_2552: The argument of saving the company a few bucks has no bearing on this story. As tragic as the driver's death was, operating a propane heater in an enclosed space is akin to committing suicide. You simply cannot claim ignorance...there are far two many tragic cases and far too many warning to not be aware of it.

You guys are missing the point. I betting this was not the first time he ever used the propane heater to keep warm. Additionally, the use of said heater should have NEVER BEEN NECESSARY!!!
These ridiculous, draconian, and totally stupid anti idle laws forced this driver, and no doubt he is not the only one, to be forced into something as unsafe as a propane heater!
Don't you think Mr. Kidd knew the risks associated with using that heater? Of course he did. But the the real stupidity, and IMNSHO, crime in this case are the causes for him choosing not to idle the #### truck. AND now a man, a son, possibly a father or even grandfather is dead as a direct result of what amounts to criminally negligent homicide on the part of these stupid anti idle regulations!

The title of this thread should be "Truck driver dies because he is not allowed to idle his truck!"

I don't disagree that the anti-idle regulations are in dire need of being scrapped and overhauled. But the fact remains that as tragic as the death was, the guy did it to himself. If you are going to fire up a propane or kerosine heater or anything else that generates carbon monoxide in an enclosed space, you are knowingly putting your life on the line. I'm sorry the guy died and yes, the idling regulations suck, but this guy killed himself with no help from anyone else. Harsh? Maybe. Life certainly can be. But it's the simple truth.
