There's a open pit copper mine up in butte , unsure if it is still operational or not. Can see it from the interstate

 

Yeah, look right as you start to near the top of the pass WB. Pretty cool. I'd like to follow it past the tunnel at some point.

There's a mine of some sort here in Butte. I'm actually here delivering to BNSF.

old hammer in hand star bit marks ? I reckon it depends when it was dug , may have had steam driven tools ?

 

A quick goog shows constructed in 1888-1889. Pretty darn cool however it was drilled

 

them were star bits then start hole with a short 1 then get a longer 1 , one man rotates bit , 2 pound with a sledgehammer

 

One more I've noticed south of Grangeville on 95, IIRC. Buncha cars stacked up at Grangeville, then you get into the mountains a bit and there's some big trestles on the east side.

There's a few places to park through there, just haven't had time when I was there.

 

I've seen that on an episode of Little House.

 

I've done it thru 2ft of concrete at the lawerenceburg Tn national guard armory for a waterline . It aint no dam fun , was the first and last time too.

 

There was a Charles Bronson movie filmed using one of those trestles between Cottonwood and Culdesac as I recall, somewhere between Grangeville and Lapwai anyway. I think it was called Breakheart Pass.
