^^^ That's good info that everyone who runs brokered freight should understand. Most truckers just complain all the time about brokers being a middle man and taking money from them. Sure that's true sometimes but if you know the pecking order you can increase your profits. You HAVE to learn how to talk to brokers to win at this game and you have to know how to listen for things they say.
I almost always know when I'm talking to a broker how their customer (meaning their specific customer on the load called on) works. They give it away on their own or they give it away if you ask certain questions. They are playing the same game with the things YOU say. For instance, NEVER sound desperate negotiating with a broker. Don't beg. And certainly don't tell them you've got to get this one because you are headed home or have to make a connection for another important load.
Trust me, they are paying attention to the things you say.
These days, if a load isn't covered REALLY quickly then they are probably desperate or the load is not important and can be rescheduled. It's always one of the two.ElmerFudpucker Thanks this. -
Anytime you call a Boker that you don't have relationship with about a load, especially if it's Thursday or Friday, the first thing the Boker will ask for is your USDOT#/company name. Then they know where you live. Then they know you are desperate to get home for the weekend.

What does a “boker” do again?

If trucks happen to be tight in the area that won't matter unless you allow it to. Then telling them no in that scenario flips the tables putting you in command.

However, Brokers do have control issues beyond their control. Just finished a load going out west. Gave them my eld tracking link etc. But they want me to upload a phone tracking app. 'NO Problem', however, their contract rules stated, 'IF the Drivers phone loses tracking connection with app' deductions will occur. This is really dumb because phone lose signal all the time.Last edited: Jan 19, 2025

Lol Exactly! But plenty will defend these morons nonsense hyping them up to the pinnacle perfection yet they're as imperious as the anyone can be. The ignorance regarding them is certainly on a new level.Iamoverit Thanks this.

I read that crap in rate cons all the time. I rarely pay attention to it. I just invoiced my 945th load since I started running my own numbers. Never had a broker charge me, or even try to charge me for any tracking issue whether I purposefully disregarded it or it was beyond my control.NorthEastTrucker Thanks this.
