Driving a Stretched Peterbilt

I run Texas only so I'm not a real trucker but there's plenty of rough roads around here. Construction zones everywhere and the oilpatch down here is hard on the roads. Plus I have to deliver to ranches that are sometimes 15 miles down a washboard dirt road.

 

I put spacers under the front of the Bostrom’s in my FLD because I thought it would be cool to lean back all the time.

 

Now you tell me, besides, most company trucks I drove, the seats were so worn out, didn't matter what you did. Many times the rollers were worn flat and barely moved, WD40 worked for a while. Bolts at the base? Forgetabout it, rusted tight. It wasn't until I got my own truck that I got a nice seat.

 

Pretty neat what he started out with and what he’s built it into.

 

He's got a burned out low beam,,very nice truck, the kid has great taste in trucks and certainly not what he might have driven in his home country,, you know, this young man is very lucky, now, does a 21 year old belong in a large car Pete right off the bat? I mean, put this kid in a Crackerbox Jimmy, and he might not be so happy. In my case, I started out on older tin cans and worked my way up to a Peterbilt. It took years, and drove a lot of junk to get there. This kid is starting at the top and couldn't possibly experience everything those older trucks taught us. It's called "instant gratification", and our society wreaks of it.

 

Jesus it’s not the 1950’s. I wouldn’t exactly call that truck “starting out at the top”. It’s a neat video. He’s 21, bought a project truck, and made it into something. A lot of the work, including the overhaul, he did himself. Maybe not by himself but he was involved. If you look back at his older videos he did start out driving junk when he was 18, so I guess maybe that qualifies him to “deserve” a Peterbilt in your opinion.

I never had to drive old trucks, except the 95 KW I bought which was a mistake. I basically started out driving nice equipment. In 1997 I got turned loose in a brand new Autocar with a brand new set of Trail King belly dumps. The flatbed company I drove for had nice equipment and I drove 3 different brand new trucks during my time there. The stuff I own now is newer. So I guess I never paid my dues either.

 

There's always gonna be the prick out there who will try to pass you in the right lane when you need the space of right lane to make the turn

 

He seems to handle it better than most of these 50 and 60 year olds in their cookie cutter fleet trucks so....
It's a cool truck and all, but really nothing special. So he's got a Pete 379 with 8" straight pipes, lights and a stretched frame. Big deal. Go sit on 78 in Bethel, Pa and you will see probably 30 or 40 with the same lights, 8" pipes and same wheelbase all day long. So it's nothing special.

But I do respect the kid for turning it into what it is after watching the video.

Edit to add....how do you know he's not already in his 'home country'?

Yep. See them every night on 78. Some truly are good looking rides. Then some of the others, well, they belong in a fence row on the back 40 somewhere. The ones that really get me are the Volvo's though. While I can appreciate anyone's effort to personalize their truck, some of those Volvo's I see are rather special.
